I want to tag this with Music, TV/Movies, Books, and also have it coexist in the Video Games forum, but I suppose having it here and without tags is best. My question to all of you is what media - what video game, what TV show, what book series - you want to experience again for the first time so that you could be filled with the newfound sense of wonder you had for the first time again? (please try to avoid spoilers here, since some people might be looking for new, un-spoiled things) I've got a few: I was reminded a little while ago while talking to @Gwoomy, I was reminded how wonderful it was to see Avatar The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra for the first time each. Mostly for character development made well, it was so exciting to see in almost real-time characters changing, especially in the second book of ATLA and beyond. I've been listening to the NieR Automata soundtrack, and every time I hear it I'm reminded of how artfully the game was made (even if some artistic decisions were questionable). Every time I entered a new area and met a new character or heard a new soundtrack or got hit in the face with a plot twist, it was such a delightful feeling. The sad thing is, this game doesn't have much replay value. Even for the 50-75% point through the game, when there was a lot of not-quite-the-same revisiting, it felt almost tiresome. How I want that to experience it for the first time again! Lastly, most of the DC Comics animated movies, especially the Batman ones I've seen were jaw-dropping and just really darn good. Some things, like the climax of Throne of Atlantis or the sheer bleakness of Flashpoint Paradox I'll never quite get back to how great they were the first time.
Spyro the Dragon, without a doubt. The little purple lizard was the guy that got me into gaming, and when I finally, FINALLY accessed Gnasty's Loot 15-20 years after I started playing left me in tears. Although Reignited Trilogy is coming out soon with new things, it probably won't be the same as playing the 3 games for the first time all over again. (still hyped as heck for them)
SO MANY THINGS. Steven Universe, basically all the books I love, literally eVERYTHING Like Les Misérables for example, I frickin love this book? So many plot twists and I got a bit spoiled. The pressure in SU- everything, i tell you.
I would love to re-experience Animal Crossing again, that newfound calmness and perhaps act a bit different in how I would treat the games now. Instead of with time-sensitive stress, just leisure and taking my time.
I was thinking the other day about how I originally saw Pokémon Blue the first time I played it. I could barely read back then and had no idea what I was doing. The way I interpreted the sprites and attempted to explore the world was a lot less logical and there just seemed to be a sort of charm to the games that I don't get to experience anymore.
As of things that I would like to experience from scratch all over again, I can only think of one game, and that is Etrian Odyssey. Even the way I discovered the series for the first time was really something to me
I don't know if this really counts, as I went into this show knowing spoilers, but it would be pretty amazing to watch Gravity Falls like it was my first time viewing it, except this time I wouldn't know spoilers before hand. I usually don't mind spoilers all that much, they're what get me excited for shows, but Gravity Falls is one show in particular that would have been pretty cool to go into blind, not knowing what to expect.
There are a fair few video games that I'd love to experience for the first time again - Xenoblade Chronicles, NieR, and Tales of Berseria are three of the most prominent. Replays are nice and you pick up on so much you missed previously, but that's only because you don't really know what to look for the first time around, and everything is fresh and exciting. None of my replays of my favourites have ever captured the sense of wonder and excitement that I had the first time around, and it's not something I get to experience much these days, because I really have seen and heard it all before. There are also VNs, which just aren't quite as much fun the second time around, because you know the plot twists. Phoenix Wright, Steins;Gate, Danganronpa, all of ebihime's works, Code Realize: Guardian of Rebirth, etc. Every Pokémon game up to the fourth generation but excluding Ruby/Sapphire (but not Emerald) is this for me, too - there is something exciting about playing a new Pokémon title for the first time that replays really don't capture. I think it's because when I first played Red it was at the height of the Pokémon craze, when EVERYTHING was Pokémon, and it was such a fantastic time to be a kid. At its core Pokémon has changed very little over the years, and I still get that little thrill when I start a new game for the first time...even for the titles I grow to dislike, like Black and Moon. It makes me feel like a ten year old again when I first boot one up. But the experience sours for the games I don't enjoy, so I wish I could experience the ones I've enjoyed all the way through for the first time again...it's been such a long time since I had that. Also Grimm! I'm watching this right now and I'm on the final season...I've been watching one episode a day in the evening, and god do I wish I had that time back to do it over again. It's been amazing. I kinda wish I could experience Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar Cycle for the first time again, too. I picked up the series with Talon of the Silver Hawk, then immediately went back and read Magician and all the novels set prior to it, and followed the series religiously over the next eleven years. There are other series I have enjoyed more - Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen is one, although I wouldn't want to experience THAT for the first time again, because it was very hard going - but I grew up with the series (well, my teenage years and early twenties...my childhood was Horrible Histories/Science, Animorphs, Goosebumps, and Harry Potter) and it was such a great read.
I would love to experience Okami all over again. I was so enthralled with how beautiful the game was and how interesting the story line was.
For me, it's Loving Vincent if the topic was movies. That blew my mind. Every single frame is in oil paint, with over 4000 frames. I mean... jeez. All of it was even in Van Gogh's style! And the storyline was awesome, too. If it were video games... hoo boy. Maybe something simple like Just Shapes and Beats, or EarthBound. Soon, I might watch a playthrough of Mother 3 just to get that feeling of "something new"...
