French Fries are delicious fried potatos that threaten to kill you, but they are worth it. Only issue @Wiso Altred calls them chips. I get international and all that but I got questions such as why does "i want a small fry", it rolls off the tongue compared to "I want a small chips" what if you want real chips. WHAT IF YOU WANT CHEETOS AND YOU ARE TALKIGN TO THE CASHIER AT SOME DINER LIKE MATE I WANT A SMALL CHIPS AND THE PEOPLE GIVE YOU FRIES, THOSE AREN'T CHIPSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Ladies and Gentlemen, People of the Jury. Chips are a thin slice that is then baked or fried. In the official description of chips it is clearly stated that a potato, fried, can be a chip. Even in multiple states, you can order "Chips" and receive French fires. A French fry, is a potato CHIP. It can be FRIED. It is a CHIP. its plural is CHIPS.
BUT a french fry is cut thick and is soft on the inside because overcooked fries taste like soda, so nasty. A chip is hard through and through, so how is a french fry a chip
Are we talking about crisps? When you say "small fry" all I can hear in my head is that fish from The Wind Waker that draws your map for you if you feed him.
They could be also called crisps I guess... that is a more acceptable name for them compared to chips
There is actually a brand of crisps called "French Fries" as well...derp. We call them crisps over here. Chips are larger and served hot...and regularly stolen by gulls along the seafront if you're not careful.
Wow. Clearly a passionate subject for our Cad. I don’t think I’ve seen an admin of a site this angry since I irked Halo Fanon Fries are cut a whole bunch of different ways and a lot of them are thin crispy varieties. Yeah, some people call them chips or crisps, but they’re not truly like the potato chips here in America...so they’re two separate things for junk food. I personally like “meaty” fries, ones that are well done with the tender potato inside. Best example I can think of is Five Guys burgers. Is this like how cookies are not biscuits?
Eh, it's Europe's terms for Fries and other stuff. They call an apartment a Flat. It's like different pronouncations for words other in America.
Eh, to each their own. I have to say, if I ever order my idea of chips and get my idea of fries instead, I won't be too disappointed.
Well, here in Canada, we've always called them French Fries. I've only ever heard them being called chips in Europe, for fish & chips. I think they call it that simply because it rolls off the tongue a bit better. Imagine if they called it fish & fries instead. It just doesn't sound right, in my honest opinion. On another somewhat related note, what do you guys think about poutine? Personally, I'm not a big fan.
It's ok. Not my first choice but I will split it with a friend or family member since I know a lot of people who do like it.
Fries aren't chips, they're heaven and hell combined in food form. Especially with salt. Lots of salt. *mic drop*
Five guys fries are some of the best fries man, so freakin good. And yes, cookies are sweet, biscuits are usually soft doughy yummy and buttery, not savory or nothing but not sweet.
If you want potato chips in some place that calls 'fries' 'chips' instead, ask for crisps. Random note: I once had fish and chips with potato chips at this one place. It was good XD #MissingNo
A 'small fry' is a kind of fish, so I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. However, fish does go very well with chips, so unless this thread is to express your secret craving for a nice fish & chips dinner, I don't see what the problem is. Unless you're talking about potato crisps, in which case I still don't see what the problem is.
Oh so this is the origin of the cheetos thing. If we're just talking about international lingo, then sure, you could call fries chips, but if you're just talking about what they are, they're not the same thing. That being said, cheetos are totally chips.
