As we all know, HeartGold an SoulSilver were remakes of the popular Gold and Silver. G/S were released in November 1999 for Japan while HG/SS came out in September 2009 - a whole 10 years later. The updated games came with brand new features, such as Pokémon following you in the overworld and the Pokeathlon among others.

Did you prefer the originals or the remakes?

For me it's an easy HG/SS choice here. The only reason why anyone would ever choose the Gen II games is purely because of nostalgia reasons, which I can understand. Myself, I have no such relation to either of the games. And it's obvious that HG/SS are clearly the better games out of the two.

HGSS because of so many new features... I've played both, and I prefer HGSS. The graphics are obviously nicer, and I like the music better too.

The remakes are superior imo because it improved a lot of things like the graphics, physical/special split, and the Pokémon following you. There were many things in the remakes that gave Johto a second life, and for me that makes HGSS more playable.

There really is no contest for me here, HGSS. It made some of the big fights considerably harder and made the Johto Pokémon considerably more fun to use. They have arguably the best post-game in the series, rivaling only B2W2 on that regard. So yeah.

There's no contest for me as well! I absolutely loved the old Gen 2 games, but to be honest I wasn't really that much of a fan of Gold and Silver, I very much prefered Crystal. Heartgold and Soulsilver not only included the storyline of Crystal, but it didn't drop anything good about the old games, it only added amazing new features, had updated graphics, etc.

The only thing I might actually like more about Gold and Silver was the amazing 8-bit music, but HGSS did a good job revamping it all I think, AND it also had that lovely device you could get to play the old tunes! That just made me love the games even more.

HeartGold and Soulsilver are my favorite main series Pokémon games, I must say. So the choice is obvious. <3

I can't even compare them. HGSS is perfect to me, it's the perfect example of a fun Pokémon journey. I love HGSS so much, it's my favorite in the whole series.

I love HG/SS and it's the clear choice for me especially the *Kimono Girls* character development! But truth be told, G/S/C always hold a place in my heart for me, because of the many memories it brought, and the imagination that came with at, when it came to the Pokémon and trainer sprites, and how we speculated on the secrets there as kids... so many good times!

Still, HG/SS had all that and more, in which, it's a nice little receiver of the Baton Pass brought from G/S/C!

I think HG/SS wins here for me too. I mean after all if you're going to do something a second time you'll want to improve on the first a lot.

HG/SS is just better in about every single way, I guess nostalgia could change your opinion, but since I've never played G/S, I don't have that.

Although Gold and Silver were the originals, they just don't measure up to their remakes in my opinion. Heartgold and Soulsilver had so many unique features such as the Pokeathlon, Pokémon being able to follow you, the pokewalker, and the original music player. The remakes included pretty much everything that the originals had, but with a sprinkle of extra fun and user friendliness!

Easily HG/SS. Gen II was great and all, but I thoroughly enjoyed Soul Silver more simply because it was more advanced.

Hum... honestly, I liked both for different aspects.

In G/S, I got to experience the magic of playing it for the first time. :o It was a ton of fun, and it made memorable events such as with the unown and the ruins with the puzzles. It was the first time I played/experienced it when I was younger. x3 And of course the fact you could hop over to kanto to find the other piece to try for the other legendary of the games was an amazing concept for me. I got to go back through kanto like I did in red/blue and it hit me hard for nostalgia.

When HG/SS Came out, I was excited to play it and relive the adventure. The add ons and pokewalker were interesting to say the least, and I believe they did the games justice with the remake. The graphics were improved, though I was a tad disappointed that the music didn't give me that nostalgia like feel (I love Ecruteak's original theme, but the bumped it up a tad which saddened me). However, I knew what to expect so it wasn't like when I played G/S. o:

All in all, Love both games for different aspects. xD

I actually really likes the older gens. I don't know why, but they are very unique.

I like HG/SS since it has more quality in graphic and more of a fun time.
G/S looks like some kind of game from the 60s. I like HG/SS more than G/S, but
G/S is not bad at all.

I've actually played both, and I like HG/SS better because you can walk around with your Pokémon, rechallenge Gym Leaders, and the game corner is much better.

I prefer HG/SS for the same reason as many have already said- walking around with your Pokémon is a treat, and the pokewalker was awesome. I really hope they do something like that again in the future.
