Maybe it's just me, but there are games that I really enjoy playing. But they don't have plot (or it is terrible), and/or the combat system isn't that great, and/or the graphics are just sad, and/or the music is terrible/noneexistent, and/or the character design is flat, and/or etc.

Stick Ranger is a game that I can and have played for hours. I don't know if it even has music, everything is made of shapes, the plot is non existant, no character has personality, and the battle system is about as basic as the first couple levels of an easy tower defense game. Yet I really enjoy playing it.

Pokémon, I love this series. But the main series games has terrible plot, as is most character design. It does have good music, good combat, and decent graphics, but still.

Harvest Moon... I don't remember the music, so it can't be too great. There is barely an combat, and the little there is is bad. The plot, while it varies somewhat, isn't very interesting. Its graphics are acceptable. The character design/interaction is nice, but is really repetitive at times. Once again, I really enjoy the series.

To be fair, Harvest Moon isn't an action game, so you can't really expect there to be any sort of combat.

But I will agree with you on the lack of a decent story and the repetitiveness, but I love that series so much. Whenever a new game comes out, I'm sure to get it, even though I know I'll get bored with it after like two weeks. I dunno what it is about that series that keeps me coming back. Perhaps the new characters that are introduced and the new map, I dunno. I do think the 3DS games have pretty meh graphics, but I do like the ones on the Wii-- I think those graphics are pretty good. However, I wish they'd make the characters look older. We're supposed to be playing an adult character who can get married, yet we look around 12 years old.

I honestly don't know why I like Pokémon either. I like the battle system (though I can think of at least three ways it can be greatly improved) and some of the character designs, but the game-game of it is not so great for me. It won't stop me from keeping playing though.

Another one that comes to mind is the Sims. I don't know why, but I can get sucked into that game. I think it's mostly for the architecture and home-design aspects of it, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't spend at least 50% of my time in the game itself. Granted I haven't played it in months at least, but when I do, I can easily play it for hours on-end. I guess I have to though, since it takes like an hour just to load.

I personally have a huge soft spot for Elsword Online. Now, the character design in this game is kinda okay (there's one guy with a paper bag over his head, creative if nothing else) and you can do some really flashy things, but the plot, while existant, is absolutely terrible and I skipped over 90% of it, the combat is practically just mashing X and Z while hoping you don't get hit yourself (of course, there's some dodging involved if you want to be good at the game but that doesn't take away from the button mashing) and while the dungeons look kind of cool, it's still just 'buttonmash to kill everything, have a bossfight where you almost die 20 times and keep buttonmashing until it finally dies.' Still, there's just something about that game that has me coming back every time I stop playing it. That might also just be my friends telling me to not be lazy, though.

Well, yeah, Pokémon. I still don't know why I keep buying the games. I guess I like the first playthrough of the game and some things in the postgame, but other than that, I'm kinda done with it because I don't play in the metagame and stuff.
I don't believe I have that experience with other game series though. I did have it with a couple of book series, but that's off-topic.
