If I have to be honest this has only happened to me with a select few games and mostly the reasons come down to something stupid. In chronological order with me they would be.

    • Fire emblem awakening: This game started my divide in Fire emblem as a franchise and It makes me sad that it was this was the case.
    • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate: Dropped due to a nostalgia bias towards Tri at the time I've since gone back to it years ago and 3u is great.
    • Pokémon X/Y: This game and I have had a love hate relationship for many years and while I put it down I have occasionally picked it back up here and there.
    • Sonic boom Rise of Lyric: Fuck this game it is easily the worst sonic game that isn't a very shitily made amatuer fangame.
    • Megaman X7: This game hurts to even speak of. I nearly broke my friends disk in half after playing it. I put this game down several times and making it through was a matter of knowing that I wouldn't have to play it again.
With my list out of the way what about you guys?

A lot of mine are not so much outright hate more than "I wanted to like it, BUT..."--one detail or several annoying features or details that spoil my enjoyment.

Bravely Default--I wanted to like it, BUT the story was repetitive, and many of the bosses were WAY too hard--on Easy mode!
Super Mario Odyssey--I wanted to like it, BUT the controls are awkward
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild--I wanted to like it, BUT I would appreciate just a little more guidance on where I should start my adventure

While I haven't played the other two yet I will say I absolutely love bravely default but to each their own.

There are so many games that I have dropped partway through. These are only a small handful out of dozens:

Devil May Cry & Devil May Cry 3:
Oddly enough, the only part of the DMC trilogy I was able to beat was DMC2. I adore the cutscenes from these games, but the gameplay and tone of these earlier entries are just not appealing to me. I can't get over how the first game is so inseparably connected to RE4. It just doesn't feel right at all. DMC3 wasn't horrible, but I sucked at it, so I ended up dropping it. The gameplay just isn't for me and the tone is all over the place. Even though I didn't include DMC2, just know that the game still sucks. It is just super short lol.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past:
There is really nothing wrong with this game from my perspective, but I just dislike how the top-down Zelda games play. The music is nice, the dungeons are pretty interesting, and the dark world gimmick is pretty great. But when playing a game feels like a chore, I'm inclined to quit.

    Watch Dogs: Legion:
This is the last game I dropped part of the way through. The concept for it is just brimming with potential, but this game just ends up being incredibly dull, unfunny (when it tries to be), and boring. I'd like to see another studio tackle this concept in a decade or so because the idea of that many people being recruitable is neat.

    Persona 5 Strikers:
The sequel to my favorite game ever came out earlier this year. Some things were nailed such as the visuals and UI. However, this game just lacks so much soul, too many gameplay mechanics, and an interesting battle system. I found myself getting a little over halfway through before I realized the game just wasn't for me. Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal has a really solid battle system with integration to other events and all of that was completely missing. That was my favorite part of Persona 5, so there is a gaping hole that was barely filled by generic Warriors gameplay. This game isn't bad by any means, but it is a sure disappointment and an entry I can't see myself going back to anytime soon.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Color Splash

Had both of these games since launch and still haven't finished them. I've recently played both in order to try and finish them, only to put them back down. Paper Mario: Sticker Star is just a game I hate with a burning passion and it's not even because it was trying to do something different than the previous games (Even though that's still a disappointment to me). What really bugs me is the fact that you have to collect stickers to do actions...even for the hammer and jump which Mario has been doing in other Paper Mario games up until this point with no issue. Mario never gets stronger outside of HP upgrade pickups, but the stickers get better. Woo...

Combine this with no EXP (Which makes battles pointless), and level/boss design that screams ' game guide' and you've got yourself one unfun time. I don't want to look at a guide to be able to beat your levels/bosses. Especially not in this day in age. It shouldn't really be needed.

Color Splash on the other hand...I wanted to try and like this game because I wanted to see the dialogue, but I just can't be bothered. I haven't made it past the first world. They did make improvements to the battle system when it comes to giving you rewards (It's not a huge reward, but it's better than nothing). However, the battles are just so slow. Yes, you can avoid them, but when you're put into a fight it feels like it takes forever to finish and that's not something I have the patience for, especially in an RPG.

I found Paper Mario: The Origami King to be a decent modern Paper Mario game, however. Thank goodness.

I drop most games partway through unintentionally. I always get distracted by new releases and end not finishing anything except shorter titles. There are exceptions of course.

Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocture Remastered is one of them. I despised the confusing dungeons, ridiculously high encounter rate, and muffled music. The game's story supposedly gets better towards the end, but it wasn't worth any more frustration.
