As we head into winter in a couple of months, gardening is wrapping up as well for most of us. I have never really tended the garden, but my family has had a garden for years and years. Sadly, it's not the easiest thing to do in Minnesota, seeing as it gets cold here pretty easily. Do you garden? How easy is it for you where you live? What do you usually grow?
I've personally never tried to keep a garden but I know my dad has tried many times and usually grows tomatoes and one time tried to grow a cabbage. I know the tomatoes always work out I'm not too sure about how the cabbage thing went down.
I use to garden a lot. Mainly growing tall sunflowers. Then I mostly took care of my neighbor's garden, which included a bunch of lavender (her daughter use to be in the business), snap peas, multiple berries, carrots, and a bunch of other stuff. Now I just have some succulents and cacti, but I did loose a few after my kitten learned how to get around the cacti's pointy bits.
The closest thing I've done to gardening is growing bean sprouts on cotton. There's an experiment I've always wanted to do with bean sprout growing, but I never got around to actually doing it.
I mostly just grow little house plants since I don't have my own yard and I can't even do that very often because of my mom's allergies. I used to be in a garden club in high school. When the weather started to turn cold and the plants started to die, I helped to harvest seeds from the Black-Eyed Susans and dig up some of the Tulip bulbs. There were potted ferns inside the school that I would help to take care of too. They needed lots of water and constant pruning.
I've never really been a farmer, but my family (mostly meaning my mom and my sister) really like gardening. Their garden isn't all that big, but they've grown tomatoes and zucchini, as well as a couple of other things that I don't really know of. My sister is super into plants and gardening. She loves taking care of plants (though sometimes they end up taking care of themselves. She has an aloe plant that she calls 'Allah'. She's had it for five years now, and that thing multiplies like it thinks it's a rabbit.)
I'm not interested in gardening but my Grandmother loves it. It's funny driving by her house because up until that point you just see dry lawns and dead plants, and then all of a sudden you see this house surrounded lush greenery (almost looking like a jungle). When my mother and I pass by we always sarcastically say "oh wow, I wonder who's house that is! My god it's gorgeous, just look at that garden!"
