Gatcha games are incredibly frequent on the mobile market, often relying on their random chance to keep players coming back to try their luck again. While the more popular gatcha games focus on collecting characters or monsters, some focus on weapons and equipable items for their gatcha systems. They're named after the gatcha machines of the real world--you make a payment (real money or in-game currency) to spin for a random character/item. Are there any games you enjoy that would be classified as a gatcha game? Are there any you would like to play but aren't able to, be it due to storage limitations or having an unsupported operating system? Perhaps you dislike the random chance nature of gatcha games and chose to avoid them?
I enjoy a game called Boardkings, once every 24 hours you can land on a space that has a vending machine. You get one free random little box with a new token for you to move around the board as. It is really cute, simple, and fun to collect.
I'd classify Xenoblade 2 as a gatcha game for having one of its most important systems dependant on this infuriating mechanic... RNG is no substitute for good game design, and gatcha is the height of both laziness and (where microtransactions are concerned) exploitative practices. I have to admit I've got a bit of a love-hate relationship with Digimon Links going right now, but I have a history of terrible luck with everything and as soon as RNG enters the equasion in any notable fashion I start looking for the nearest table to flip. It's just not fun to me to be repeatedly denied nice things.
Fire Emblem Heroes. It's really the only interesting gacha game I play (I don't count Magikarp Jump as a gacha game because the game is 100% completeable without purchasing a single in-game item with real-world money) because I love the Fire Emblem series (though, due to the massive overhype of Fates and Awakening I've begun to question why I still like it). I've purchased orbs, but I readily recognize it as a bad idea; I've given the game enough support from me that I don't need to give it any more, and I won't until they give the older games proper due. The game itself is quite fun and challenging (sometimes frustrating, but that's due more to my limitations than any sort of limitation of the units), and it's fun to experiment with new builds.
Like said above, Fire Emblem Heroes. At least the game is not too terrible with the F2P base (me because spending money on an app game seems like a waste) because you can still make some good use of the units you get and the 5* rate, although a bit stingy, has been enough for me to collect some good 5* units. Also Enstars, which is hell a game where you can "scout" for new cards of beautiful idol bois. The 5* rate is pretty bad (1.5%) but they make 4*s (6-ish%, but every month and new scout box they guarantee you a 4*) very useful. They give out a diamond (the premium cash) everyday and partaking in the events that happen around two times a month can net you 50+ diamonds or more. Basically, play gacha games that respect the F2P base and also invest in Japanese apps since you don't have yen and won't be tempted to buy stuff because you can't :p
Many! The gacha games I play on mobile are CocoPPaPlay, Love Live! School idol festival, SB69, Idolmaster Cinderella Girls, Aikatsu Photo on Stage, BanG Dream, Idolmaster Theater Days, Pokecolo, Idolish7, Fire Emblem Heroes. So...a majority of my game playlist, haha. FEH is one of the fairest since they give out orbs frequently, though I've found my summoning luck to be pretty horrendous these last few months. But I still have ended up with many 5* characters without spending a dime.
