I'm sure we're all familiar with the legendary hell spawn known as Ghetsis' Hydreigon, and how goddamn broken it is. As many times as I replayed BW, I only have one memory of my experience with this thing, and that was the time I somehow managed to defeat it in one try without having to soft reset... or rage quitting. So what was your experience like?
The most recent time I fought Ghetsis in Black and White, I used my own Hydreigon. A legitimate one, mind you. Not that broken under-leveled monstrosity that cheater had. As poetic justice for all the times he almost completely wiped my earlier teams in past playthroughs. He was still faster than mine, and almost OHKO'd my strongest Pokémon. I was so scared he was going to wipe my team when I saw that health bar drop to red. Just... why does this thing exist? I hate it so much.
I remember my first Nuzlocke of Pokémon White... That thing destroyed half my team. "Oh, it's a dark type? Better send out my Pignite!" Surf! OHKO! "Ok, well, I have an ice-type anyway. Go Beartic!" Fire Blast! OHKO! "Ok, this is getting ridiculous. Time to send out my Stoutland..." Focus Blast! OHKO! "Oh, for the love of-" Yeah, that battle was a pain XD
What puzzled me was the fact that it was ridiculously fast and its SpecAttack coupled with its wide variety of moves left us with only a few options. First time I faced him in White, it took out my Samurott starter and Krookodile. I had my Throh take it on since it's SpecDef was the highest for my team. He Circle Threw it away and I brought out my Swanna for a Tailwind, which happened to last long enough to eliminate his Bisharp replacement with a Surf and swapped to my Haxorus who was thankfully now faster with the aid of that Tailwind to bring it down with a Dragon Claw. In Black, I came prepared. Happened to have a Trollolga that paralyzed it early and double Acrobatics'd it until it was dead. That's right you cheater....your invincible dragon was taken down by a flying Pikachu lookalike. Kids who play the Black and White eventual remakes will have access to Fairies...they'll never know the struggle we went through to take this notorious Pokémon down.
@SnowboundBecca @Mandriel @BraviaryScout It's so wild to think about that fact that, no matter what Pokémon you have, that Hydreigon is always a problem across the board. Everyone's playthrough is extremely individualized, but in the end despite whatever type or Pokémon you have, it's always a struggle...
I was really under leveled in Black 2 when I reached him, so he rekt me. What I don't understand is how can his Hydreigon be level 52? Don't they evolve from Zweilous at level 64?
@An Evil Wizard Ugh, relatable. And yeah, Zweilous evolves at level 64, but Pokémon is sometimes known for having NPC's with underleveled evolved Pokémon (ex. Falkner's level 13 Pidgeotto, Mars' level 16 Purugly, Lance's level 50 Dragonites), so it's kinda like a big ol' slap to the face.
Team Rocket. Evolutionary. Signal. I mostly remember Ghetsis' character rather than my battle against him. I think I used Reshiram against Hydreigon, it's been awhile and I haven't played black/white in over two years, so... *shrugs*
Huh.. I didn't actually have a hard time defeating him. I OHKO'd his Hydreigon with my Accelgor's bug buzz iirc, but I could be wrong. I do remember finding him a bit hard at first but I pretty much swept the last half of his Pokémon. ;D
I actually blew through him in one try and didn't find it hard at all. Actually, I know a lot of people who have trouble with Pokémon like his Hydregion and Whitney's Miltank and I just knock them out in one go, so I don't really know the struggle.
I always had a little bit of trouble with him, but that's partly because of some self-imposed things I was doing at the time - during my first run (I played the fan-translation on a ROM before it came out, shh) I refused to evolve my Dewott (I was part of the Samurott Dislike squad at the time; now look at me :u ) and my Mienfoo wasn't evolved yet, and during my second run (when it officially came out and I bought it) I didn't want to use Reshiram. Both times I lost repeatedly until I eventually put the Eviolite on Mienfoo (first run) and gave up and used Reshiram (second run) though. I wasn't exactly the best at teambuilding, though, so that's part of why.
