Gimmick Pokémon

Plusle and Minun were basically made for double battles. They aren't worth crap anywhere else. I do love gimmick Pokémon though, and hope they make more with different gimmicks.

 

I generally enjoy their presence, but I think their gimmick shouldn't be the only thing about them. For instance, why not make Chattot (displaying DS and beyond's microphone, though even that was hobbled intentionally) be more battle-ready? Why not give Luvdisc a unique function in battle or breeding, not just a catch-and-release that makes me feel like a sharkfin poacher? Or expand Castform's weather reactivity, like adding in Forecast randomly changing the weather at the end of every turn after weather damage plus better special attack for Weather Ball and its stab? I at least think they handled Pyukumuku right. It's like they decided to make a gimmick Pokémon in that it has no direct attacking moves, but is still somehow useful in battle. Hopefully this is the start of a good trend.

 

I love most gimmick Pokémon, they make for a nice variation to the other stuff and make the line-up more interesting. I do agree that they should have more about them though, most are pretty useless.

 

I can’t stand the gimmick that is Shuckle. Stats that are more broken than Pheromosa or Deoxys. Yet out of spite I tried to use one. Still don’t like it.
The only other gimmick I can think of is Shedinja. Wonder Guard should also be like Magic Guard, in the sense that it only takes damage from attacks. Well that would make Shedinja broken.

Dunsparce's gimmick is to paralyze the opponent and then Headbutt the hecc out of them. It's glorious. X'D
