After waiting on my sister taking nearly an hour to shower this morning, I started thinking about how long is 'average' for showering. It seems tough to pin down a time, especially when the times in my family alone range so much.
How long do you usually spend in the shower? Do you think you take too long or should hang around a little longer? Do you have any family members that take forever or come out as quickly as they went in?

I found it depends with age. Older people just find it a chore and do it. Younger people fail at doing it an therefore take a while and I find teens just take longer then they realize.

Not only does it depend on age, but time of day too. Let me explain. For much of my life I've taken my showers in the morning, before school or work or the day's activities, and most of my life I've taken about 20 minutes. For the past few months though, I've been taking my shower after work, and despite probably being dirtier now than then, I can knock out a shower in 5 minutes.

My guess? Morning grogginess. If you roll out of bed and stumble into the shower, you're not completely mission-oriented yet, so you just enjoy the nice warmness of the water and let it wake you up. If you're already awake though, you can scratch "let the water wake me up the rest of the way" off your shower to-do list and take much less time (and water).

I usually take about 20 minutes (yes, I have actually timed it), going in this order:

    --get body wet
    --wash hair
    --rinse hair
    --wash body
    --shave if needed
    --rinse body
--one last rinse just to be sure I got all the soap out

The length of a shower I take entirely depends on whether or not I am washing my hair in that instance. If I'm not, I will be done in 5 minutes with minimal hassle. If I am, it will take between 15 and 20 minutes (closer to 15, thankfully, as I've been getting better about shower time as I age), plus another 10 to dry my hair directly afterwards. (I used to let it air dry for a bit before using a hair dryer, but that ended up having unfavourable consequences when I got older.)

However, knowing me, most of my showers will be the latter type, as I don't like having to shower and only do so when I must. I'm usually fine afterwards; I just don't like having to put up with them. The main cause for this is that I only like water when I'm drinking it; having negative experiences with swimming in the past has made me remarkably jaded. (Don't get me started on having to shower right after a swim. That is one of the main reasons as to why I don't swim anymore. That was almost 10 years ago.)

There is one small exception that will make me want to take a shower, and that is if I have been perspiring greatly during the day up to that point - then I will not be as reluctant. The catch is, after thinking about it, by the time I actually get home to shower, I have stopped perspiring, so I don't think about it anymore. I am not against hygiene per se; I just don't like having to keep it up - much like a lot of other human activities I have to keep up.

I used to shower at night, right before going to bed; when I did that, my showers usually ranged anywhere from 15-30 minutes. But now that I've moved to bathing in the morning instead, I have a lot less time to spend doing so and have shortened my usual time to about 10-15 minutes instead. I don't like getting up super early, so that's about as long as I can spare each day.

I usually shower in the evening after school/work, so they tend to be 15-20 minutes. Sometimes 10, if I'm in a particular hurry about something. it usually depends on a day to day basis however, because sometimes I'll space out and just stand under the water for a while and it ends up taking closer to 30 minutes. Which is annoying ahaha.

It usually depends for me. My hair is extremely long, so I can take upwards of nearly an hour in the shower, & if I'm colouring my hair, that's another 30 minutes give or take. I usually take my time in the shower because everyone is asleep when I'm in there, cause I take my showers first thing in the morning.

Uhhh, I shower for 40 minutes... I guess because my hair is super long and hard to wash, and shaving is a pain. XD I don't shower every single day though, so me showering 40 minutes every two days is like the same as showering 20 minutes every day.

I don't take very long to shower, 20 from start to finish (including drying off and getting changed). Mostly this is from observing my sister taking too long in the shower and my dad turning off the hot water.

I do not like having showers at all. The problem is, I can never find any time in any day to have a shower except for the weekends (when I'm not on holidays), so I have to stay as clean as possible. It's such a busy life. Another problem is that I take longer in the shower than the wise limit, and since I'm very environment-wise I'm not so keen on wasting too much water. If I had the capacity and time to have a shower everyday, then I wouldn't waste much water.

I always find showering weird, it's the one thing I can take ages to remember to do, but when I do it, I don't want to leave...

I've always loved the embrace of water, how it feels, so showering is a definite bonus to that. Due to, well let's say my unconventional love for water, I can spend up to half an hour in there without realizing, and my hair never goes beyond shoulder length, if even, so hair isn't really the cause for my longer-than-necessary showers. I just genuinely have an issue with leaving the water, like I'm leaving an old friend.

I think I may have a problem XD

I have a bit of a habit whet I get lost on a train of thought because the conditions are great in a shower to do that easier. I'll often find myself standing there while staring at the sane spot for a while. That can make things very from 15-45 minutes

I tend to stick to taking baths rather than showers, since the one shower in my house is cramped and uncomfortable and has lead to many unfortunate injuries. I can get a bath done in about 5-10 minutes if I'm alone, it doesn't take that long to wash my body and hair. If my mother is home, I take a bit longer because the bathroom has the only door that locks in the house, so I can rest in peace for a bit without being bothered every 5 minutes.
