Fanfiction Gotta Catch Em' All

Hey everyone, Regionrunner here with the first of (probably many) chapters dedicated to completing the ENTIRE Pokédex. Check out the Rules chapter for information and in the meantime LET'S GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD


Entry 1: First Step

Hello, my name is Nicholas, and I’m an assistant of Professor Juniper. I’ve been living in Nuvema Town for about 3 years now, and they’ve been very enjoyable. Today was going to be when Ms. Jupiter was going to give me a new ‘assignment’ or as I like to call them, research papers, probably trying to figure out how Pokémon like Lucario and the Alolan-Dugtrio are the Steel Typing. I got out of bed and said good-morning to my parents, who said they knew about my assignment from the Professor and were ready for it that’s weird I thought to myself wait… no way….NO WAYYY. With the realization of what’s going to happen dawning on me, I ran towards the Lab as fast as my Running Shoes could take me.​

“PROFESSORRRRR I’M HEREEEEEEEEEE” I cried when I arrived. “Hello Nicholas, looks like you slept well.” she replied in her eternally calm voice. I went up to her desk, full of scattered papers and pens, one of these papers being a confirmation of a package. “So what’s my new task?” I asked “I swear if it's trying to groom Charger” I shivered at the memory of when Charger, the Bouffalant the Professor keeps on her Lab’s grounds for studying, tried to attack me thinking a brush was a weapon. “Well.. grooming may be involved, you’ve been one of the best inte…. Assistants I’ve had in my years as a scientist and I think it is time to reward you, I’m sending you on a journey”


“Wait, what?” I asked, not sure I heard her right. She briefly summarized that every 10 years she sends out a willing Trainer to collect Pokédex entries for her, and that I’m her pick for the decade. “I’ve already talked to your parents, apparently they were going to set you off on a journey for your 16th birthday, I beat them to the punch” she said, giving a barely noticeable smirk. “ So do I get a starter?” I asked “ if so I want it to be Oshawott, Water Types are very useful” I said, quoting the Professor on one of her lectures about the Pokémon Jellicent. “ no actually, I wanted to give you a Pokémon with a clean slate, something that no other Trainer which has come to me can say they’ve started with.“ She said throwing out a Pokéball with a feather logo.


“RUFFLET!” the Pokémon cried, Oh man I love Rufflets, they’re so cute! I internally fawned over the small Eglett Pokémon. I walked over to the bird, making sure to use all of the techniques the Professor taught me “Hey buddy, my name’s Nicholas, we’re gonna be partners.” I gently put my hand on the Flying-Type’s head, and they nuzzled my hand. “Let’s think of a good name for you...Orintho?” I asked, the bird nodding its head. “Professor, I can't’ thank yo-” i started before she cut me off “no need, this is my personal thanks for being not only a source of good help, but of good company throughout the last couple of years, make sure to call often ok, and leave me the Pokémon you run out of room to keep.” I agreed to her terms and said my goodbyes to the other Pokémon on her property and goodbyes to the people of Nuvema town I loved so much. After spending a solid half-hour of crying with my parents, (who gave me 10 Pokeballs) I set off. With Orintho on my shoulder and her Pokéball on my belt, I was ready to tackle anything.

Onto Route 1 I went, I planned on spacing out my captures so I can actually get to know my Pokémon, but I was eager to get a first catch, and I had just laid my eyes on one,a Lillipup.Before I got a chance to throw Rufflet out, however, I got a call on my Xtransceiver “Hello Nicholas, its the Professor and I have to ask you something, can you come to the Lab, I forgot to give you something.” Now I consider the Professor like an aunt, so it's very hard for me to get mad at her, but right now I was quite close to blowing up at her for scaring away the Lillipup I went back to the Lab to see the Professor holding some kind of green cylinder with a white Pokéball like item in a slot on the top. “this is a Page Rider, something found in Alola, this was a gift from the other scientists who’ve met you, I’ve already put in some location on the Charizard Glide feature, so you can head to other regions! I also added in the Sharpedo Jet feature to allow you Surfing capabilities” I thanked her for the gift and did something I surprisingly had not done, I hugged her. “Thank you Professor, for everything”


When I had finished part 2 of my goodbyes I took a look at some of the locations on the PR.

With these locations and many others popping up on my PR, I then realized I had to see what Orintho was capable of, using my Pokédex to scan the Eglett on my shoulder and seeing she had quite a bit of speed behind those little wings. “I can’t wait to see you as a Braviary, Orin” I said, patting her on the head, making her give off this quiet little coo. “You ready for your first battle?” I asked, assuming her squawking “ rufFLET” meant yes, I set off towards Route 1, ready to restart my attempts at a first catch.


I was determined to find that Lillipup, and after 10 minutes of searching I found it, a young, healthy Lillipup. “Hey Lillipup, let’s go, Orin get him” I cried, Orintho flying directly at the Lillipup and hitting him with a powerful Wing Attack, catching Lillipup off guard and sending him toppling over, though he was quick to get up and launch a Bite at Orintho “fling him off” I cried, as Orintho started spinning, the Lillipup getting torn off of the Flying-type and onto the ground, landing with a thud. “Ok here we go, Pokéball” I said, throwing the device at the weakened Lillipup, and catching it


“WE DID IT, WE GOT OUR FIRST Pokémon!” I shouted, running over to Orintho and hugging her, as the bird tried wrapping her wings around me, but failed, and just accepted the one-sided embrace. As we walked over to Accumula Town, something dawned on me “hey Orin? I’m going to take this capture thing slow, sure I’m gonna catch a lot of Pokémon, but I wanna enjoy my journey” as I talked, I felt Orintho picking at my hair, I’m guessing the fact that it looked like a nest must’ve appealed to her.


Upon healing my team in Accumula Town , I threw out Lillipup and he clearly was eager to meet us “lilLI PUP PUP” he cried. “Settle down buddy, hey, how’s that for a name, Buddy? Well anyways, welcome to the team, it's not much right now, just you, me, and Orintho, but I think we’ll become a force to be reckoned with one day, now lets see what you can do.” Upon scanning Buddy, I found out he had Tackle in addition to the Bite we saw earlier, and he had Vital Spirit, which would turn into Sand Rush upon evolution. “Well you’re gonna be useful once we hit some deserts, maybe I should give you an Ice-Type TM if I find one.” I thought aloud, wondering what my team would look like once I reached one of the many deserts of our world.


After scanning Buddy, I rented out a room in the Pokémon Center to rest for the journey ahead, scrolling through the options on the PR for where to go, I decided on the location and showed it to Buddy and Orintho, who were perched up looking at the stars. “Here we are guys, next stop: the Winding Woods”
