I have Greek mythology on the brain, since I just finished watching Blood of Zeus and am in the middle of rereading the Percy Jackson series. I've always liked these characters and stories, and I want to know what your guys' favorite characters and stories from Greek mythology are. My favorite characters, in basically all versions I've come across, are Hermes and Apollo. They're kinda just out there to have fun, and the two of them are gods over so many different things, it's just kinda ridiculous. One of my favorite stories is when Dionysus gets kidnapped by pirates and then turns them all into dolphins. I don't even know why I like it, it's just kinda funny. I also like the apple of discord thing. One goddess gets mad about not being invited to a party, and suddenly all of the gods, as well as the Greeks and Romans, are at war with each other and everything falls into absolute chaos. I just love how petty all of these gods are. It makes them feel extraordinarily human.
I was never really into mythology, but I did like the story of Pandora and the story of Hades and Persephone.
Personally, I really like Greek mythology. I like a lot of gods, but my knowledge on all of them aren't as well versed as some others, but I get by. I liked the early stories of the gods. For example, how Hades, eldest son of Chronos, was eaten by his fathers with 4 other siblings (Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Poseidon). Being rescued by the most... let's say free (Cant keep his tool in his pants. Got to keep this post PG 13) god out there, Zeus. Receiving his objectively overpowered helmet, and fighting back against his father. I also feel like, Hera is misunderstood, or at least overreacted. Sure, she did overreact... a lot of times, but she was just mad at Zeus (Because, again, he can't keep his tool in his pants). I mean, she's the goddess of marriage and family. She's faithful to her husband, and he's out there hogging anything he can get his hands on (He even turned into an ant to get it on... look it up).
Greek Mythology has been one of my favorite subjects since middle school, there's so much to it. Every story is so crazy in it's own way (How many love interests has Apollo been through?) and studying it never gets old. I'm actually doing a long term comic project based off of Artemis, Apollo, another minor goddess name Aphaea, and two deities I created named Keelan and Halia. I think one of my favorite things isn't directly a story, but instead just... The weird collection of children from Nyx? Like most of her well known children, like Thanatos and Nemesis represent dark subjects (death and retribution respectively for the two listed)... and then we have Philotes, the Goddess of affection and friendship. How in the world did this happen? Who knows.
I love a lot of the media that has been created as a result of Greek mythology. The Iliad and the Odyssey, Percy Jackson, and even recently in Hades have I found wonderful material in. I rarely directly study Greek mythology. However, I am content consuming other media that have sucked in some influences and breathed life and modern flair into the content.
