Ah yes, first coming to fruition in 2010, the Nuzlocke Challenge is a self-imposed way to play the game with three specific rules (well, one of which isn't quite as explicit) - firstly, you can only catch the first Pokémon you encounter in any area, and if you fail to catch it then that's it. Secondly, if your Pokémon faints by any means, it is considered to be "dead" and you can't use it anymore. Third, while this isn't an explicitly placed rule, you basically have to nickname all the Pokémon you use, because that makes you feel closer to them and make it hurt even harder once they're no more.

Part of the reason this challenge exists is to encourage you to use Pokémon that you most likely wouldn't use in normal playthroughs, like the early game derps, and it makes you feel super close to them as to keep them from fainting. Because in normal playthroughs, most people likely steamroll opponents with super strong Pokémon and Revive stall their opponents - not so much here! It's not likely that any two Nuzlocke teams will have the same Pokémon come the end of their adventures.

We also have the Wedlocke Challenge, a Marriland created variant that pairs two Pokémon that are male and female to their own team. That one takes it to eleven!

So, what are some of your favorite Pokémon you've gotten to use in Nuzlockes or Wedlockes (or any sort of variant before)? What were some of the hardest deaths for you? What were some of your favorite fights you've had in them? Anything else? Discuss!

I have been able to catch a few shiny Pokémon before. They only seem to show up while training early in the morning though, and only in a nuzlocke, weird. The worst death was when my poor chespin died to a Brains and Brawn duo. Left my poor Blastoise to go alone through the rest of the journey, sort of.

I've never had the guts to Nuzlocke. I think part of my problem is I'm a hoarder, I can't capture just one Pokémon per route. And the ache of loss when one permadies! I don't think my little heart could take it. The closes I ever came to doing a Nuzlocke was on Ruby or Sapphire, when I played through having only six Pokémon ever. No permadeath, no healing restrictions, no any of that stuff, but it was still so difficult for me to reduce my catching/keeping.

I adore Nuzlockes, and want to start one on my AS, but I just can't decided between Chain Monotype or Wedlocke. I might end up doing both, or maybe something else!

I remember my first Nuzlocke team.
    Turty Torterra(M)-Stars Staraptor(F)
    Rose Roserade(F)-Psy Gallade(M)
Flame Run Rapidash(F)-Sport Floatzel(M) (For some reason he knows fly)

I think I must've cheated, since Sport knows fly. XD
I remember that I used to pair them up, even before Wedlockes even existed.

I also promised myself that I would never restart it. Looks like I kept that promise. :)

My hardest Nuzlocke has got to be Black2/White2. I ended up giving up. XD

Wow... So much nostalgia here. :)

I've been doing a Nuzlocke with my buddy, RedScizor, in Y where we fight after every gym battle, making sure one of us loses a Pokémon. I decided to do my own Nuzlocke in Alpha Sapphire. I made it to Granite Cave, and my first Pokémon was an Abra. That's bad enough as it is, but this was no ordinary Abra. It was a shiny. I threw a Great Ball in hopes I would catch it, but it only shook once before Abra broke free and used Teleport. Red decided to do some calculations to see how likely it was that I would catch Abra, and it turns out I had a 49.548% chance of catching it. Needless to say, I hate my life...
