Soooo grinding, something a decent amount of games usually requires you to do, especially MMOs and RPGs in order for you to progress and get better gear and what not. What do you think of grinding in games? Is it something you enjoy/don't mind too much or only do because you want x thing? For me it really depends on what I have to grind in order to get where I wanna be, some quests however that needs to be repeated over and over in games like FFXIV in order to get some of the better stuff while that gear was still relevant felt like too much even if it was the best of the best at that time.
Okay, so I'm gonna take Pokémon as an example: I can spend a lot of time on the first route just doing fights to grind levels if I want to, I don't really mind doing it
I tend to do the same since I nuzlocke a lot, Pokémon def can count for this. They can be grindy but at least it tends to be bearable.
So, imma put my opinion on two completely different games here. First up, Pokémon. Leveling is fun, and often times, I enjoy it, but it soon gets tiring, all because it takes longer and longer to keep doing this. Repetition makes me bored. It makes me quit. Second, Monster Hunter. I'm not a big gamer in this series, and I've only played World, but it's something I like to grind in. Testing new weapons and trying new skills. It's something that I can like, and all because there's always a new strategy depending on who you are.
It really depends on the game/what I want to grind for. I don't mind grinding out levels or money to get something really worth my time and I haven't run into a game that I didn't mind grinding...yet...
I actually don't mind grinding too much. I find the monotony rather comfortable, actually. Especially when I'm watching something, I like to fidget with something.
Depends on the game. I don't mind SRing for a shiny, but trying to dodge 200 lightning bolts? NO. THANK. YOU.
I'm a little indifferent when it comes to grinding. Due to me not being able to stick to one thing for too long, grinding can be a pain. That doesn't necessarily mean I hate it though. Grinding has the capability of being fun, but if it's very repetitive, then it can get dull pretty quickly. For example, in Darkest Dungeon, grinding is somewhat of a necessity, but every time you go into a dungeon, it's always a different experience. No matter what gear you're rocking on your characters, the game still has the capability to murder every single one of them if you're not ready for it. That makes the grinding much more bearable. But if I have to stick to a specific route and continue to repeat the same task over and over again for 30+ minutes straight, then we're gonna have a problem.
I like to just zone out and listen to music while level grinding. It can be pretty fun and very relaxing. Sometimes I'll listen to something else in the background like some youtube videos or something.
I have always enjoyed grinding in video games, be it for levels or money or anything else. The thing about grinding, though? It has to be rewarding, and it needs a guaranteed result at the end. I never had the patience for things like shiny hunting in Pokémon titles, because there is zero guarantee that you will see any results. If RNG is going to be a factor in grinding, then it's not grinding - it's RNG. Which is about as much fun as clawing your eyes out. Grinding monsters in Monster Hunter for that one carve you need for a new weapon or piece of armour...that's RNG. I need results; tangible, measurable, and guaranteed. The whole point of grinding is to achieve something, and know you're working towards that, and if your efforts are dictated by RNG, it's not really an achievement when you get it...you could literally never do it. Or you could do it in a few minutes. Either way, I wouldn't classify it as grinding.
Again, depends on the game. I'm fine with leveling up my Starters in Pokémon, or grinding for levels/items in EarthBound, but I am NOT okay with getting 10000 Rubees in Super Paper Mario.
I just hate grinding in general. Leveling up is great when you can do it easily but games like Oblivion force to sleep to level up which isn't always the easiest thing to do.
I hate grinding, because it feels to me like wasted time. That's also the reason why I don't do shiny Hunting, because it takes too much time imo.
I kinda enjoy grinding, at least in Pokémon. Yeah, it can get tedious, but I like being able to see my Pokémon get stronger and stronger, and it always feels really good when the Pokémon learns a new move or evolves.
Forced boring grinding is a game dev sin. Someone bought your game to have fun, and choosing "attack" in a menu a few thousand times to get past a poorly planned level curve probably isn't fun. Well... okay, maybe some people find it fun, but it's probably not as fun as overcoming new obstacles and developing new tactics and exploring new environments. I'll fight new mobs all day if it's actually engaging and fun, but spamming "attack" button against twenty thousand rodents? I'll pass, thanks. I spend a lot of time playing Dissidia OO lately, and if there wasn't an "auto" function for the more tedious parts: grinding for exp and upgrade materials on daily quests ten times per day. With auto, I can tap "start battle" ten times spaced five minutes apart, and watch the easy leveling get done easily. If it wasn't for that auto function, I literally wouldn't even play the game. It would get so boring doing the same easy battle ten times per day, seven days per week. I don't know if it's called grinding still, but I'll also gladly go on side quests specifically for leveling, regardless of plot significance or non-exp rewards. I can save the world later if going on special hunts or optional missions will help me be better leveled and entertained. I just spent six hours doing that in Ni no Kuni 2.
Monster Hunter World grinding >.< Especially for Gems/Plates, I run a Weakness Exploit and my Palico has a palarang, This doesn't help. I won't get gems for weeks then I get buried in ones I don't need. Currently the bane of my life is Teostra Tails
