How to make a Tutorial​

1) Introduction​

​

Hello there!. Welcome to this new Tutorial!. Well I think that the title already explains what I will be teaching this time.​

​

Okay, When you enter to the section Tutorials you can see any kinds of Tutorials around, it is pretty interesting because this shows that Lake Valor has many persons with the amazing ability to teach. ​

​

Now, with some changes around we are able to find a Subforum known as the Pokemons Tutorial Subforum. So having 2 sections is amazing because it helps a lot at the moment to search for a particular kind of Tutorial. ​

​

But now the problem that I have noticed is that some people wants to share some of their knowledge but they don't know how exactly make a Tutorial.​

​

I know, we have the Tutorial Rules, provided by our dear Super Moderador [member='shinygiratinaz'] and thanks to them, people like me has the possibility to know what to do and what not at the moment of sharing a Tutorial with the community.​

​

But I noticed that we don't have a Tutorial about how to make a Tutorial. Yes, it sounds funny, but is the true, so lets start with it.​

2) Start to make a Tutorial: Obtain the Information​

​

So, the first that you need is information. Of course the information must come from somewhere so I will put a list of the different ways to obatin some information.​

a) Personal Adquisition: ​

​

This is the most useful and recommended. this one is based on your personal knowledge, so at the moment to explain and at the moment to set a defense about the Tutorial it will be better because you will be protecting your own work, and your own time spended in earning that information.​

​

b )Websites and another places:​

​

I know, you are thinking "I readed it , I learned it so it is my own personal adquisition", I will say that it isn't yours, because you are basing your knowledge in the work of another person. ​

​

You can give an opinion about it, but make a Tutorial about it, is take a big risk because maybe the person that explained it before had a wrong data, and that could mean an endless discussion about wrong information, and we don't want to give wrong information to the other persons because this is not the goal of a Tutorial. ​

​

So, if you are going to make a Tutorial about this I really suggest you to take it delicately and work it slow, because it could be a risk. ​

​

Of course everything has its exceptions, for example if you talk about specific information like the Stats of a Pokémon, there is no too much margin of error.​

​

3) Preparation for the Tutorial​

​

Okay, here is a little hard part. Because making a tutorial is not only share information. ​

​

At the moment of explain in a Tutorial, you have to take in mind the following points (following the rules of course) :​

Personality​

​

Your personality is what is going to make your Tutorial a different kind of explanation. ​

​

Your way of be will be reflected on the Tutorial, your feelings and even many other things that are not relevant at this moment will be reflected too.​

​

But you have to know that you must be sure of what are you doing, because a Tutorial is a hand that you are giving to the other persons, it is something that you want to teach, something that you are giving to the people because you think that it is a necessary resource that they must have. ​

Said this i will continue with the next point.​

Responsibility​

​

It is very important. If you are going to make a Tutorial, you must be responsable.​

​

There are always persons interested in learn something, but with the new knowledge many questions start to appear, so you must be there to answer all the questions (if they make sense and follow the posting rules also check Constructive Criticism) if you have the ability of course, in the case you don't, you must search fo an answer or talk with other persons to get a second opinion.​

​

Also you must be responsable if your information gets old, you must be responsable and keep your information Updated.​

​

So that is why the responsability is important.​

​

Predisposition and good attitude​

​

Well, you don't need to much explanation about this. You have to keep a good attitude at the moment of explaining and at the moment of answering questions, because a Tutorial is an optional way to give help, not an extra task that you have to do.​

​

Understanding this, you can follow the final step to make a Tutorial.​

4) The Tutorial​

​

So, you are here now. You have the information, your personality and responsability combined with Predisposition and a good attitude.​

​

So, to make the tutorial itself, you must locate the information in the correct order.​

​

If your Tutorial needs previous information you must put an order from the easiest stuff to the hardest, allowing the lesser qualified/new persons to easily understand what are you trying to teach/show.​

​

Always remember the most important Personality, Responsability and Predisposition with a good attitude.​

​

They will guide you at the moment of building the Tutorial and will be your tools even after building it. (remember ask questions, help persons and bring another conclusions)​

Okay, ending with the feelings and the important stuff, we will start with the technical part.​

Here you will explain about the tutorial, sometimes you can put some points and an index if you think that it will be needed. Also, you will be welcoming here and there is where your personality starts to take effect.​

Explanations and exposition of the information​

In this part you will put all the stuff that you investigated. You will set the structure as I said before: start with the easy stuff and then go raising the level of difficulty (if your tutorial needs it).​

​

Once that you ended the explanation, always sharing your personality because that is what makes your Tutorial different from the others, you will make a revison in all the tutorial, checking if you are following the rules, if you are showing what you want to show and if you have all the needed details.​

Conclusion​

No, it isn't over yet XD.​

​

The Conclusion depends on the person. Some people likes to put a revision of the tutorial and talk about what they wanted to share and their intentions at the moment of making it.​

In my case I say my intentions and I also put some useful links that could be relevant.​
