"Oh my! It seems someone had hacked into your computer. Please contact [blank] to help you recover your computer data."

We've all had issues like this happening before. Someone had managed to hack into your computer and did massive damage to it. I know I've had that happened to me. OR, you've managed to hack into someone else's device by luck or overheard them say their password.

Have any of you hacked into somebody else's electronics or lost your data that you can't recover due to someone hacking to your computer?

I have actually lost my iPod due to one of my siblings messing it up due to guessing my password correctly. I lost a lot of apps and music thanks to them. -_-' But then again, I did get them back by hacking into their iPod and messed it up as well. -w-' And they're still mad at me as of now even though I forgave them...

I love hacking/breaking into other peoples' devices, but I'm no pro. I'm just the guy that memorizes somebody else's password, takes their phone/device, and sends a couple of stupid messages to myself about how sexy I am. I will NEVER intentionally mess with somebody's private files and stuff, that is their property. I consider that to be the same as if I went into the store and destroyed some of their items, it's still property, it just feels more physical than the digital.

I've never had my computer hacked before. Closes I would have to that would be that someone managed to hack an account I had on a game and the admins on there responded super quick to that thankfully so no harm was done. I've been on sites that got hacked by people that just wanted to vandalize and destroy it, some because they were butthurt over getting perma banned for breaking the rules.

Guessing someone's password is not hacking. If guessing a password means you're a hacker, then pickpocketing (or perhaps even just picking up a loose $10 from the ground outside) means you're a bank robber. Seriously, there's a difference.

Contrary to simple password-guessing, I actually can do some limited legit hacking. I can gain access to password-protected Windows User accounts (and the data therein even more easily, as well as registry info for deeper stuff) from 7 back to XP or earlier, and I even know a way past some Linux OS logins. My only limitation is that I can only do these locally. I can't hack your computer from afar, I have to actually be sitting there and be able to do the things I need to do to at the computer itself. These methods are surprisingly easy, actually, but it's also easier to get caught messing around on a computer in person than from across the world.

The only time I did this maliciously was to temporarily break someone's copy of Skyrim my making and installing a custom mod on their game that would cause it to crash every time it loaded up. All he would have needed to do was disable that mod (which I believe I titled CTD.esp) in his load order. Hey, he would not shut up about playing that game. I'm talking hours-long rants on an almost daily basis. I needed some peace and quiet. And I un-broke it later anyhow.

According to [member='Blast'] and [member='Sanctuary'], I somehow manage to hack the LV Lotto system everyday in order to let myself win. I'd like to announce that this is true false, as I know little to nothing about the internet.

I have hacked into my sibling's iPod before, where I proceeded to spam it with pictures of my face. I took enough that he had no storage space left, and his iPod was 16GB. Needless to say, it took him a while to get rid of them all~

Have I ever hacked? No, I do not have the skills required. Have I got someone with click bait on the other hand? heck to the yes. The most I ever did was make a mod for star trek armada and it was a very simple one. The worst thing I ever did was memorize a friends password to their computer then change the password. Was he ticked? Oh yes! Did he laugh? Hysterically! Did he get me good 3 days later? Good as in handed my butt back to me on a silver platter good. Would I ever hack a computer if I could? Only if it were to annoy someone and I could 100% insure that no one got hurt and nothing was damaged or destroyed.

I went listening for passwords, once, using a program that rhymes with FireBark (which is also great for exposing any suspicious af connections your comp is making over a network connect, who could be a sign that you've been compromised!). Heh. Even funnier still, I did it on the comps at college, looking at data packets being sent over a network when you do stuff on the college's version of Moodle. Lo and behold, in between the reams of data you were getting back (think the command line prompt 'tracert' 'cept going way beyond a scope of 30 hops) , you could see the password there, woefully encrypted.

I'd love to try brute force hack something. I've always been told to protect against it when dev'ing, but I have never seen the other side of the picture. Cryptology was awesome, man.

This is actually a subject I'd love to learn more about. My friends irl often call me their hacker friend, but I obviously know very little about the topic. I'm planning to study for the CEH exam (certified ethical hacker [USA]) so I can do penetration testing and other coolio stuff.

@[member="Leviathan"] can I test my new skills on your machine? yes or yes?

Sures. And if you somehow manage to brick it, you can shell out that pretty moolah for a replacement. :')

ohh Kouhai's gonna study to be a white-hat hacker

    That reminds me. If anyone else is proficient at hacking/wants to become a hacker, where would you allegiances lie;

White hat hacker - Guys that find vulnerabilities in software and report it to the developers.
Black hat hacker - Guys that hack with the intention of making a pretty penny or something equally sinister.
'Grey' hat hacker - The sometimes good, sometimes bad kind of hacker.

Technically I'll become a black hat by that definition :P I'm looking for jobs in that field, even if it's for a good cause ;)
