So I just got my hair washed and blow dryed and everything, but I really don’t like the way it looks currently. I wanted a specific style but I didn’t get the chance to mention it thanks anxiety so I’m thinking maybe, if I use any wax or gel products, I can do something with it until I’m able to get the style I want. Do you guys have any recommendations?

Because I’m black my hair is very thick, but it’s also straight, and it’s short as well (jaw length) so if there’s any that can work with that kind of hair texture and length that’d be lovely.

I don't know if it's what you're looking for, since I have non-nappy, super straight hair, but a product that works great for me is called "designing taffy", specifically the Great Clips store brand. It holds my hair as well as gel does, without the hardness that comes with gels. The best way I can describe its effect is the all-day holding of gel but with the softness, resistance to wind, and touchability of hairspray or mousse. It holds my hair in place for 48 hours if I don't wash it out, so there's no worry of it giving out partway though the day. I even get to work walking through a very windy alley (Pidgeot used hurricane, I am not even joking, sometimes I can't walk forward or even breathe), and I never even need to touch up once I get inside.

My hair is currently 2.5 inches long at its longest, and I keep it in kind of an up-do fauxhawk. It keeps the hawk up and it keeps the cowlick down, so the product is versatile, and it will keep my upwards-going hair cooperative at least until it's 3 inches, the downward hair probably longer. I don't know if it's a factor worth considering for your hair texture, but you do need to be able to run your fingers through your hair to apply this.

    I hope that helps.

I used to use this cheap polmade stuff sometimes, it doesn't add much stiffness but an help with styling. It can be rough to wash though, but I used to like it a lot.
