First and foremost, thanks for wishing my sis a happy birthday. I'll make sure to pass it along. Unfortunately, there's a good chance she won't be seeing these personally soon. While working with metal in her sculpture class, Shiny was poisoned when she unknowingly began working with a piece of metal that had a galvanized coating on it, and she breathed in a lot of it without realizing. We still aren't entirely certain why none of the professors or the TAs noticed and intervened or how that dangerous material got mixed in with the other safe metals the rest of the class worked with.

Shiny is doing okay, but is dealing with pretty serious metal poisoning. Fortunately, the biggest affect is just exhaustion. While it's awful to see her too tired to carry on life as it was before, I'm thankful because metal poisoning can have much worse consequences and we haven't seen them. She's on the way to recovery, but it's going to be a little while.

Anyway, thanks again for wishing her a happy birthday, everyone. I figured you deserved to know a little bit of why she hasn't been been responding.

 

Please give her our get well soon wishes. I can't imagine the impact it will have on her. All the luck in the world that it is just exhaustion she is currently suffering from the most, and not something more serious.

 

That's awful, how the professors didn't have that in check is baffling. Wishing her a really speedy recovery.

Then I'll have to be sure to prepare a grand welcoming for when she's recovered again. Having worked in chemistry labs before, I can understand what's been going on (though metalwork is still trickier than anything I've worked with).

I appreciate you passing this news along and keeping us informed. I hope you, your family, and your friends all get through this together.

 

Oh my god, my best wishes to her, I really hope she recovers fully! Shiny is a wonderful gal and I hate to hear she got put in so much danger and is sick due to it!

Aww, that sounds awful... I'm glad to hear that it's at least not the worse of the consequences. I hope that she recovers fully and that there won't be any lingering damage. My best wishes to you, Shiny, and the rest of your family, stay positive, hope you can get through this together.
