Which gym leader gave you the most trouble in the older generations? There's a lot to chose from, so we will see who comes out top.

Whitney actually beats all of these guys for me. Pain in the ass Miltank slut.

True that. That Miltank was a little too strong for that point in the game. As a young kid I remember I found Sabrina hard, though. Psychic types were a bit overpowered in my opinion back in Gen 1.

On White2 I found clay nearly impossible for me to beat. His sandslash and krokorock were pieces of cake for a leavanny, but that darned excadrill mauled all of my guys one hit. Even if pignite could take a hit, his flame charge wouldn't kill the thing.

Hmm. I can't remember having trouble after those.

After restarting FireRed recently, I pretty much smashed all the gyms into pieces.
I guess I just picked up my team members at the right times.
Sabrina was actually really easy, my Scyther's Fury Cutter (Scyther has a pretty small movepool in this game) did the trick pretty well, and I had Arcanine's Bite as a backup.

As for generation two, I sometimes get trouble with Bugsy if I avoid trainers and Whitney is SO annoying.

Try using Charamander against Brock. It's freaking hard. And so is Misty. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I remember I picked Charmander as my first starter ever in the first games. Brock was pretty hard if you don't build up a Butterfree or something.

Am I the only one who had trouble with Brock in Pokémon Yellow?

I mean, all you had was Pikachu, and then all you could catch in the wild were Rattatas and Pidgeys. Something tells me they won't help against an Onix and a Geodude.

I'm pretty sure you could catch a Mankey on Route 24, the one leading to Victory Road.

Clair was really challenging.Due to me not having an ice type or dragon type when I got to her.

Whitney, but only on Gameboy Color. She's kind of easy in Heart Gold/Soul Silver, but I just can't handle Stomp in Second Generation.

I'll join in with the Whitney haters... even in HGSS I found her tough.

I always found Wattson and Liza/Tate to be tough in Nuzlocke runs, as well.

I don't really remember having any issues with the gym leaders in Crystal. Not even Whitney's Miltank. It may be that my Meganium received all the experience and I could freely spam everything with strength, cut, flash, and maybe razor leaf. Not a well thought out moveset but it got me through the elite four and the champion :\

Wattson when I didn't choose Mudkip as a starter.
Never had problems with Whitney's Miltank actually, probably because my Pokémon are mostly female (not intended, it just happens) and I knocked her out before Rollout started being dangerous.

To this day I remember singing "Rollout!" whenever I fought that stupid Miltank. http://youtu.be/t21DFnu00Dc?t=17s Rollout....Rollout...Rollout...
