Typically I'm okay getting just the cheapest earbuds. However, lately I've been getting quite fed up with the poor quality of the cheap $20 earbuds I tend to get. They really don't sound great and they break very quickly. I want to buy some new ones, but I'm very lacking in knowledge about headphones and earbuds, and I don't want to spend too much or too little. I've seen headphones out there for like $200 and that just seems ridiculous. I'm not looking for anything extremely fancy, just something to hear music clearly that will last me quite a bit (like at least a year?).

So my 2 questions for you guys are:

Which is better in your opinion, headphones or earbuds?

How much will you comfortably pay for headphones/earbuds (whichever you prefer)? And why?

    Thanks ^-^

Well, I get the same brand each time(I forgot atm), but mine is earbuds. At the Dollar Store/Dollar General, I get them for 4.50 and they work great and they last a while. They are pretty comortable in my ears too, unlike ones that are just hard plastic, these ones have a soft gel type feeling(hard to explain as I don't talk about them).

i prefer headphones over earbuds, myself. more comfortable and they tend to have better quality sound than earbuds at the same price. the pair i have at the moment is a chunky sony set, and they were only $20 at walmart. i love them! great sound for an awesome price. i just checked the website and it looks like they've even dropped the price a bit! http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sony-ZX-Series-Stereo-Headphones-White/16817859 theyre a bit big so theyre not exactly the most portable, though.

I wear earbuds since I have a small head and don't look good with headphones. I have a cheap $7.99 pair but I'm working towards getting a pair of Urbanears.

    Earbuds all the way. :3

I prefer earbuds because they aren't too big, and they are cheap as well. I remember about a year and a half ago I went to a store (don't remember which) and got a pair of earbuds for like 8 dollars and they still work. I honestly don't like headphones just because they are too big.

I absolutely hate earbuds. They're annoying, fall out of my ear, they break easily, and the rubber things always come up missing at one point or another. Plus I'm a bit conscious about my hearing and I know they're considered worse for your ear drums. Plus to me they don't sound very well compared to headphones. However the one positive thing I can think of is; they are easy to carry. So if you do a lot of moving, lifting, or simply just want to stick them in your pocket. They are the best thing to have. I personally use them at work because we're not supposed to have headphones or ipods on the floor...but I cannot help it. I have to listen to something other than Justin Beiber and horrible music covers all day, every day. Haha.

I actually prefer headphones. To me, they last longer, sound better, and some of them look pretty cool too. I've always found them more comfortable to wear as well. I have a couple pairs of them at home that I use all the time. They usually say the more expensive you go, the better they get. I think it's pretty darn true haha. Only down side is, depending on the type/style you get, they are bulky and can be a pain in the butt to carry around with you.

As for how much I would pay? Personally the most I've ever paid for a pair of headphones was about 30 bucks. They were Skull Candy, which are supposed to be awesome to have. They were, but I didn't think they were that comfortable. What I like to do is lurk at the nearest music store and keep an eye out for sales. We were able to get a pair of 60 dollar headphones for only 15 bucks. And those things are super sweet. (I'm also stingy about money spending too. So I usually go for cheaper stuff or sales haha) But in short, yes. I would spend up to 30 bucks, even maybe 40 for a pair of good headphones.

However for earbuds. I'm sticking with 10 bucks or lower. Mainly because I hate them and I use them at work, where I move around a lot and have to lift up and move stuff all the time. So I'd rather have them tug the ear buds out of my ears over having them yank on the headphone wire and short them out.

I love headphones. I hate using earbuds. Headphones make better sound and are more comfortable. Earbuds always tangle and I'm afraid the plastic part with come out in my ear. With headphones, it's always higher price equals better product. Even the $20 headphones are great. I have a $50 pair and they're perfect, and comfortable enough to sleep in. (Which I have done).

I've always found that earbuds hurt my ears after use- anything sticking into my ears causes an earache for me. I've always used headphones myself, but I've never bought one in a store, so I wouldn't know which brands are best or anything like that. I have a pair of heavy noise-cancelling aviation headphones that my dad got at his workplace, which work great. I like headphones that block out any outside noise, personally, as I am very sensitive to sounds and prefer to listen to music without interruptions.

I do recommend headphones over earbuds if you want something that's durable and blocks out outside noise better, but some brands of earbuds are likely just as good- they're probably fairly pricey, though.

Thanks for the input so far, guys. I have too found that earbuds hurt my ears and give me headaches, but not if I keep the music very quiet. It makes sense that headphones would be less damaging to your eardrums and whatnot.

After reading this I think I will get headphones. I don't really need to take them anywhere, I really only listen to music at home personally. I honestly have no experience with headphones, as I've only used cheap earbuds, so I'm never surprised when one side suddenly stops working, or I have to start jiggling/twisting the port to get sound to come through. It will feel so nice to have something that actually lasts haha.

Noise cancellation would be cool, I'm more concerned with noise leakage (idk what it's actually called), like I don't want to bother people around me with the noise, so I don't know if noise cancellation works on both ends (I don't hear outside noise, outside people don't here my noise)

Also, if anyone wants to suggest specific brands, I'm all ears. (no pun intended)

I only wear Earbuds when i am traveling because Headphones are a pain to carry around without breaking them of screwing them up. But when im stationary i am definitely wearing headphones. They have better sound quality most of the time and surround sound is a plus for a gamer like myself. I usually Use Skullcandy Earbuds and Astros Headphones.

My friend had noise cancelling headphones and i couldn't hear anything she was listening to, nor could she hear me. I think hers was made by Sony.

So far I've had good luck with Sony headphones, Skull Candy, and these headphones I got from attending a concert xD I dont know who made them though.

I'm gonna have to go with Headphones. They're more comfortable and don't fall out of your ears and they produce great sound.

My pair of headphones are Sony. They work very good with nosie cancelling. They also make the sound sound louder, so there's no need for the volume to be all the way up, which I find to be a good thing.

Don't bother spending a hundred bucks or more on those "Beats by Dre" shit that's talked up; they aren't 50$ better than a high quality pair of 50 buck ones you see, you're just paying for a name. I use earbuds myself since I just have a little mp3 player I take on the bus or walking around, suits me fine. On a computer I just use my speakers since I live alone.

For going outside my house, I use earbuds, since I can just stuff them in my shirt without problems. Even just keep them hanging there. But at home, when I'm not moving, headphones are the way to go. I actually prefer speakers (since I move a lot when I draw, and sometimes I forget I have headphones on and when I stand, there would be this tugging...anyway, never you mind that), but since I live with my family, I can't really go all out with my music (which is those techno, electronica, rock, ska...just really loud stuff).

I like Sony. Sony's nice. :3 Mine lasted 2 and a half years of constant abuse (from me standing up abruptly and stuff). Who knows how long it'll last if taken with extreme care?

I wear earbuds when I go places other than my house and and I wear headphones when I'm in my house because its easier to travel with earbuds than headphones.

Headphones by far--earbuds tend to fall out of my ears no matter how well I jam them in.

I think both are good depending on how you use them. Headphones are obviously used as headsets, probably have more features like adjusting bass, and are generally more expensive. Earbuds are cheaper, more portable, don't have to be as careful with them, good for exercising/working out.

I prefer earbuds because I listen to music a lot when I workout, and headphones would be a little inconvenient for me during exercise. Noise Isolating Earbuds that are good quality would be the way to go for me!

For me, I prefer to use earbuds. They fit good in my ears and I've been using them for about 3 months now. I got them for $10 and they are Sony ones. I have used headphones before, they do have great sound quality, but you have to find the correct size for your ears.
