Over the past few years, technology has evolved in vehicles, changing the way we citizens drive. It has also improved various safety features. We've seen cars with satellite radio capabilities, and now, we use our voice to tell the car what we want to do. It has the capability to connect your smartphone via bluetooth or USB while you drive. Just a few simple voice commands like "Call <name>" or "Send SMS to <name>" and you're on the road.

Technology in automobiles have become more modern. There are vehicles with rear-view cameras, cars that park by themselves, and cars with Wi-Fi integrated in them, even some that let you connect to your social media!

What do you think about the future of automobile technology? What will we see next? Do you think these technology improvements makes us safer drivers? Why or why not?

Well, first they need to fix the audio in the car for calling, the other person can't hear shit most of the time xD

I'm kind of torn on this to be honest. On the one hand it keeps drives from fiddling with a phone, but it still distracts them if it's through the car since they have to pay attention to two things at once, the road and the person they're talking to. I try not to be on the phone while driving, and I won't even answer if I am.

I think this tech makes it more convenient for the driver, not necessarily safer. You're still taking their attention away from the road, more so than a regular conversation with another person in the car because when you're on the call, you have to respond to the other person and try to make out what they're saying over the static and potential interference. Not quite as hazardous as holding a phone at the same time, but more hazardous than not taking the call at all.

Really all these add-ons do it make the car feel more like a computer. For all we know there may be a USB port and holosceens for working on files in the car, Nick Fury style.

Self-driving cars are cool, but I still think everyone should get a drivers license. Just in case something goes wrong.
Like all technology, self-driving cars can be hacked, and their software can be changed. That's a major con when it comes to these cars. But I guess they are pretty convenient overall.

lmfao My car is like 10 or 11 years and I won't be seeing any super fancy car for some time. .w.

Though, I loooove the technology that a lot of modern cars have now, I think that what they can do is really very cool. A lot of the newer features are handy, though cars that can drive for you on autopilot kind of horrify me, and I hope that doesn't become a common thing. xD

Cars have way too much technology in them. Nowadays you have Pandora streamed to your car, tommorow well have portable wifi in them!I love all of this new technology, and now when your getting a car, it's something to look for. (But it costs a heck of a lot to get)

I want to see cars driving for us. (Not cruise control) but taking turns and all. The only thing you would have to do is plug in your location and where you want to go~ (it seems like a good idea, but hopefully the future will bring something like this!)

@[member="Gengar's Grin"] explains my opinion on this pretty well in saying:

I think convenience is too prioritized over safety when these features are made. Multitasking is something that should not be done in these situations where a transportation can turn into a death trap within a second because you didn't focus on the road.

Something I'm worrying about is when these eventually become the prime timeframe for used car age. Today I can go buy a crummy 90s used car for less than a thousand dollars. But what about when every used car in the classified section of the newspaper (or whatever) has built in GPS and voice command and touch screen media management and all this other stuff. It's going to be harder to find a dirt-cheap car for you kid's first set of wheels if they all have their price ramped up by these included features.
