    Hey everybody! I'm new here, and, uh, yeah.

    'Sup.

    Let's start with my Pokémon background: I started cathing 'em all back in the days of Blue (that might make me an oldster), and I continued playing up through SoulSilver. For unexplainable reasons, I dropped out of the series around that point a few years ago (I turned on SoulSilver last week to find that I never even beat Red in that file! gasp). Fast forward to last month-ish (New 3DSXL release day America, I kind of dropped out of all gaming for a while there), and I buy Alpha Sapphire for the nostalgia, and I'm pulled back into this world by its own immense gravity.

    I don't really follow the card games or TV show or any of that, I'm just a player. I used to disdain the competetive scene (due to my own lack of enthusiasm), but I think I might try it out now. So far in Alpha Sapphire, I've really made a breeder out of myself, which has two benefits for me. 1: competetive will be easier if I ever get into it, and 2: I love making someone's day by giving away good Wonder Trades. You won't find a wonder-traded Wurmple with my Trainer ID on it.

    Uh, and my favorite type is Steel? I don't know. Time to bring it full circle. Hy everbody, I'm new here. I think I will grow fond of the place.

    Welcome in! I'm glad you got back into the games! I'm the same way; I don't really watch the anime or play the card game, just play the games. Though I have started reading the manga too.

    Yo, welcome to the site! Heh, you keep with the series for a long time before your break, that's pretty cool! The Hoenn region does wonderous things for the nostalgia, haha. If you'd really like to start dabbling in the competitive scene, you should check out our Pokémon Showdown server (http://lakevalor.psim.us/) it's a pretty great tool for teambuilding and chatting with other users. :)

    Good to know I'm not an outcast for not following the TV or cards, but on what Pariah said I was considering looking at the manga. From what little I've seen it seems like it can be a bit deeper and more grown up, not to mention the battle wounds depicted therein (I have mixed feelings about the word "fainted" for instance. It's better than "died", but it seems watered down. Oh well).

    It was exciting jumping into AlphaSapphire wonder trades after not having played Black&White, B2W2, or XY though. Like all the little news leaks, but completely out of the blue. All of these Wonder Trades I've never seen before! My mind was blown! I mean like Zoroark? Galvantula? Bisharp? Dragalge? Volcarona? MEGA AGGRON? Whaaat!

    ... Klefki? What?

    Of course I had to go bulbapedia this stuff and ruin the rest of the surprises. Oh well, it was till fun to see for the first time and be surprised by it.

    I remember taking a 5-6 year hiatus when the Hoenn region came around. It wasn't until Platinum where I made a full, official return to the series.

    Thanks for the warm welcome wagon everybody. On LostSpirit's 1-part questionnaire, the thing I like (or at least admire) most about the Pokémon franchise is how it has become an unstoppable force of nature, an absolute smashing success in the entertainment industry. What began as probably little more than a doodle of a Rhydon that could have easily been tossed into a trashcan has become a worldwide phenomenon invading every marketable medium possible. Video games, comic books, movies, TV show, toys, theme parks, genetically engineered Pokézoos! Maybe not that last one.

    Not yet at least. Give it ten years, fifteen tops.

    But seriously, the omni-cultural multi-media commercial success of Pokémon is astounding. I don't think any other entertainment media is as universially appreciated as Pokémon. And all by virtue of its own immense awesomeness.

    Plus all the totally cool creatures and whatnot.
