I know a couple of good historical movies such as Dunkirk (2017), Gettysburg, A Bridge too Far, Torra Torra Torra, Battle of Waterloo, and maybe a couple of others that I can't think about right now. The bad ones that I can think of are Battle of the Bulge, Brave Heart, Pearl Harbor, and some others. What historical movies do you think are bad or good and why?
Some of my favorite historical movies are Schindler's List, Gladiator, and Apollo 13, though my absolute favourite historical movie is The Great Escape. I first saw it with my dad a few years ago when it was playing on tv. Compared to a lot of other historical movies I've seen, The Great Escape feels a lot more lighthearted in tone and doesn't always try to be as dramatic as possible. It knows what it wants to be and doesn't try to cram a theme or the fact that it's based on real events down your throat. It just presents a good story that happens to be based on real-world history, without unnecessary clutter to make it look more impressive or eye-catching for reviewers. My only real complaint with it is that it's a bit long and you need to dedicate some time to watch it; it's not a movie you can just put on and watch for a quick bite of entertainment.
