Generation 6 has wowed us with so many new features, both major and minor, that have really helped reshape Pokémon as a game. From sprites to 3D models, from Musicals and Contests to Mon-Amie, and from fixed character designs to customisable avatars, we've seen a lot of improvements. But how do you think the games could get better? It can be hard to think of but I have a few ideas.

Dialogue boxes that can differentiate a Pokémon's sex would be one thing, so that unless the Pokémon has no sex, it will be called 'he' or 'she'. I think that would be a nice touch, and wouldn't be to hard to do.

Fully modeled NPC trainers could also be pretty cool (even though the current artwork is lovely), and having both trainers present on the battle field would be a nice touch too.

While not something I think the game could really do with, perhaps more unique move animations depending on the move itself. So X-scissor would always be performed by a Pokémon crossing its claws/pincers/scythes/etc, rather than a generic physical contact animation. Fling would have a throwing animation and low sweep would have a... low sweeping animation. Considering how much variation there is already I don't think this is totally necessary but it would be another nice touch.

Maybe give some not-fully-evolved Pokémon mega forms, and give regular evolutions to mega-evolving Pokémon. For example, giving Scyther a mega due to it having the same base stat total as Scizor and therefore not being inferior to it, and an evolution to Mawile which gives players a choice as to evolve it or keep it unevolved so that it can use its mega stone. The formula we all thought was unbreakable was shaken up when fully-evolved Pokémon and legendaries got mega evolutions, so I'd like to see it shaken again by this.

What do you think? Is there some tiny feature you've been waiting to see get an upgrade?

I think it would be nice to be able to skip over first user tutorials like 'how to catch Pokémon' and the like. Maybe there be an option at the beginning so advanced users wouldn't get those bits.

I don't think the pkm trainers on the field would work well since there are tons of times where I think a pkm trainer would be injured if it actually stood behind their pkm like in the animes lol.

Things that I would really love to see though:

    - FAST FORWARD BUTTON. Really, going through all the text every time I do a battle is my least favourite thing in the world. It just takes forever. If they had a fast forward button like the Mii plaza does for holding down the right trigger that'd be super awesome.

    - STOP DISCONNECTING when we go to home screen or close the DS. It'd be a lot easier to add friends for quick trades and go back in without having to Lion King the DS while waiting for it to connect again.

    - In my emulator for I think it was Pokémon red they had this button you could click that brought up the type chart during a battle. I'm still unsure if that's an emulator thing or if that was actually in the game but bringing that up would be great for noobs like me who still need a type chart in front of me when battling.

    - A little graphic somewhere saying what type a pkm you're battling is.

    - Better inventory sorting. My items bag seriously takes years to scroll through....a separate slot for evolution items and megastones would be cool. I also don't understand why they got rid of the separate compartments for balls and battle items.

    - Get rid of deposit and withdraw PC options and just set the default to the "organize boxes" one. Idk. Do ppl even use the deposit and withdraw options?

    - More guy clothes options.

    - Let you search for pkm that you haven't seen yet in GTS without having to type it out (cuz seriously. I can't spell ok)

    - Bring area completion Pokédex function back

    - Breed more than 2 at a time. Or stackable eggs so you don't have to pick up one at a time. Or let us swap out a pkm from your party with a pkm in the daycare without requiring 50 million open slots. Or better yet. Let us pick pkm to breed from the PC.

    - Do something more with amie. Other than to get sylveon.

    - SECRET BASES

    - Obligatory mention about the post game

    - Ability to choose difficulty settings. (I think someone else brought that up in another thread)

    - MORE THAN ONE SAVE FILE

    - Ryhorn/Skiddoo/ Mamoswine racing

    - Pokémon follows you around like in HeartGold/Soul Silver.

    - Ability to type with non english characters in english games (altho I've kinda given up on this it'd still be nice...)

    - O Power timer. Or just a clock in general.

    - Be able to search GTS by pkm asked for. Also be able to filter out legendary wants

    - In 2nd gen and maybe other gens, ppl would call you for rematches, or just to give you things even in post game. I want that back too.

That's all I can think of.....It's a lot I know. Kudos to anyone who reads this post :P

Oh and something that wouldn't work in another gen but would work in say Pokémon Z: - Be able to actually see the gate numbers when you're riding the bike in lumiose

    *edit: MASS TRADING/TRANSFER

Okay, most of what I thought has already been mentioned, so I let those out, but here are some of mine:

    - When you put a Pokémon in the DayCare, make it appear in the backyard outside! That's something that shouldn't be too hard.
    - What I found was really confusing, was that the affection from Amie, is not the same as your happiness. That should really be one thing.
    - More post-game content. Or at least something to do post-game, except for derping around and fighting in the Battle Maison.
    - More sidequests. There are hundreds of NPC's who serve no other purpose than just standing there, doing nothing. Make them request an item or a Pokémon for a reward or something.
    - Be able to skip the credits after you beat the E4 at least twice.
    - Something I found really annoying: After you beat the E4, you start again in your own house. Unless you have something with Fly, you have to walk all the way through Santalune Forest, to Santalune City, before you can get access to a PC.
    - Some variety in the landscapes. Gen V had different seasons, which was a nice touch. I wasn't too happy with the fact that certain items could only be obtained in specific season, but whatever.
    - Some actual differences between male/female characters. Okay, you get wear different clothes, but everything else remains the same. A romantic affair with Shauna is great, but not if you're a girl (unless you're into that kind of stuff O_O)
    - Bring back the VS. Seeker! After you beat all Trainers, they just stand there forever, once again, serving no purpose.
    - And last, but absolutely not least: Dear lord, please do something about the HM's! Everyone has at least one HM slave in their party, which leaves room for only 5 other Pokémon. C'mon, Lapras can carry you overseas without a freaking disc!

Another way I think the games can improve is if HMs were made forgettable (at least while not in use). The only reason I can see that they weren't in the first place was so that the player didn't get stuck in an area that required a HM to get out of. But even then it wouldn't have mattered because HMs were always reusable, so you could just teach the move and go. Now there isn't really a reason to keep them except maybe making it a challenge of keeping them on your Pokémon until you can get them taken off later in the game. It would be great if the moves could be forgotten.

The reason for the HM's is that if you could forget them, you could go to an island, make your Pokémon forget Surf, release it, and then you'd be stuck there. HM's cannot be forgotten, because you could end up stuck somewhere.

To release it, you'd have to use a PC, which of course would allow you to withdraw another Pokémon to teach the move, or fly away. Don't have one? You could easily catch another surfing Pokémon at the water you crossed using the Rods that the game gives you from time to time. It shouldn't be too hard to design the areas of a region to prevent permanent fixes like this.

Okay, but imagine this: You released your only surfing Pokémon. You want to catch another one, but you have no Pokéballs. You want to buy some, but you have no money, and no items to sell. There are no trainers on the island to battle, and no items to find.

Other situation: You go to an area, blocked off by a tree. You release your only Pokémon capable of learning Cut, and once again, no Pokéballs, or money.

Also, you can easily play any Pokémon game without obtaining any of the rods, so you can also be unable to fish up a Pokémon.

What I'm trying to say, I find HM's as annoying as you do, but there is a legit reason why they're there. It's not easy to find a way to avoid the use of HM's, but at the same time, reserving certain areas until later in the game.

So in summary, Pokémon can be improved by making HMs forgettable and NOT designing the region to trap players permanently. Like I said, it shouldn't be too hard to do this, and if they're making a new game where HMs are forgettable, they'll also make it possible to get out of every isolated area. It kind of goes without saying that the two go hand in hand.

I don't really mind that HMs aren't forgettable. But why can't they let us trade our HM Pokémon in our party? Amount of times I've had to cancel a trade and move my Pokémon to PC before it can trade is annoying @_@

On the plus side, TMs are still reusable. Which for me is a great leap forward :P
