I find ROM hacks pretty awesome. I always love to see what others make of the original games :)
even though I'm not really into the difficulcy level, I prefer games with low difficulcy levels because I'm lazy

I've played quite a few ROM hacks. Some of my favorites are Liquid Crystal and Glazed. I've tried creating a ROM hack myself (basically just a more challenging version of LeafGreen with other bits and pieces added to it). About halfway through production, I lost the desire. I might one day decide to complete it. Not sure at this point, though.

I love ROM hacks. Pokémon Glazed is something I'd consider a Pokémon game itself. It's genius, and I sometimes play them as much as I do Pokémon. I don't use fakemon as much as other people do, unless It really strikes me and I must have that. Otherwise, I don't bother.
I encourage anyone out there to play/make them~!

I actually enjoy rom hacks. Ones I've played are Pokémon Toxic Purple, where you play as a Rocket Grunt, but the developer stopped the game. Pokémon Discovery is the one I'm currently playing, although the developer is still working on that one. I heard Pokémon Light Platinum and Pokémon Glazed are amazing, and I'm hoping to play them one day.

As for developing a hack myself, I have started a few on my own, only to not finish them because my laptop at the time had a virus and would shut down. I had some pretty decent ideas for the hacks. But as far as I can do with ROM hacking...I can write scripts, do mapping, add sprites into the game, and edit the title screen.

I think ROM hacks are pretty amazing. Another forum I go to is really famous for ROM hacks, and that's where I learnt what they were. I really admire those people who have the ability to make all these amazing hacks for us to enjoy as it's something I won't be able to do in my lifetime. Some good ones I've heard are Light Platinum and Glazed. I haven't tried any of them yet, but one day I just might!

I'd like to try my hand at making a rom hack at some strange. Seems thrilling to be able to weave your own story through a hack, and I'd like to see what goes into the code for such projects.

I'm an avid modder of Bethesda games like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, so as soon as I found the modding tools necessary to change Pokémon (4th gen in my case), you can bet I jumped all over that. Even if in my case "all over that" means just tweaking most Pokémon to have different types, stats, learnsets.

The thing is, I have yet to play an original romhacked Pokémon game that is better than any official Pokémon game. Sometimes it's the premise, or the spritework, or strange (in a bad way) new species. So far the only romhacks that I've thoroughly enjoyed are just tweaks of existing games, like SacredGold and StormSilver, or the one that remade Johto in FireRed. Not to shoot down anyone's hopes and dreams: I don't even use Wyrmstooth for Skyrim, and that's supposedly one of the best modifications of any videogame ever. It's probably more a shortcoming of my own appreciation than a shortcoming of anyone else's abilities.

In those cases, I wish it was easier. There are so many things I don't agree with in standard Pokémon. The abundance of Flying-Normal that I think should be pure Flying, a lot of evolution/breeding methods I don't agree with (the entire concept of Incense-enabled breeding). But it's not as user friendly to modify Pokémon as it is many other games these days.
