I know I will get some opposite opinions on this, which I don't mind as long as you are respectful of my ideas. The reason that Gen 4 is the best because it added many things that people take for granted in the Pokémon games. The first one is that it added in the physical special split. An example is that in gen 3 flamethrower and fire punch were both special type moves, when gen 4 came it made flamethrower special and fire punch physical. This split help make the competitive Pokémon what it is today, though it did hinder some Pokémon it greatly helped other Pokémon that were struggling. The second reason for why it is so good is because of the Pokémon that I added to the game. If you look at all the designs for the Pokémon in Diamond and Pearl you will see that most of them look really sick some examples are Garchomp, Magmortor and others that I am to lazy to name off. Thought there were the some that looked bad; like stuntank, there were mostly good Pokémon. Garchomp today is one of the most popular Pokémon to use for VGC for about 3 years. The last reason that I think that these games are so good is because they added evolutions to older Pokémon. I know that some people don't like most of them but to me I love them all. Togekiss I have to say is one of the best out of that group just because of its flinch hax. Sinnoh added a lot to Pokémon and most of what they had is still used today in newer Pokémon games. Remember that this is my opinion so if you have your own opinion as to what is the best region/game let me know. Again please be respectful of mine and other peoples post. Thanks for reading.

I really like Generation 4. It did a whole lot to fix Pokémon and was one of the final steps to try and perfect Pokémon. The storyline of these games were awesome as were the Pokémon. I could go on for a long time talking about awesome gen 4 Pokémon (Torterra, Infernape, Empoleon, Lopunny, Gallade, Garchomp, Staraptor, Roserade, Electivire, Magmortar, Mamoswine....).
I love these games. Platinum is probably my favorite Pokémon game.

Generation 4 is cool and all, but you know what MADE Generation 4 cool? Not Sinnoh. HGSS was where it was at.

Generation IV had a lot of amazing Pokémon, such as Lucario, Froslass, Gallade, Roserade, Magnezone and many others. The Legendary Pokémon were also great, even though there were a lot. I really enjoyed playing the Gen IV games, and the Sinnoh region is definitely my favorite. The storyline was also great, and it introduced some of everyone's favorite characters, such as Looker and Cynthia. So, yeah, I like the games. A lot. :D

I really enjoyed playing Pokémon (regardless of Generation) but I have to admit that I prefer Platinum over Pearl or Diamond; the change of the character sprite's costumes is one another is the subtle changes to the Pokémon as well as the added animation as they enter battle.

Another thing that I really liked was the change in the battle format; instead of white it was black which made it so much more cooler!~

Fourth gen definitely stepped up the Pokémon franchise. Introducing new evolutions and concepts into the game such as shiny and dusk stones. The storyline was chaotic and really brought so many interesting characters such Looker and Cynthia, which would make appearances in future games. Honestly, fourth gen also created strides in competitive play with the physical special split.

Eh, Gen IV probably introduced the least out of every generation, but the physical/special split really was a game-changer. They were the first Pokémon games to go online via Wi-Fi, annnnd, that's all I can really say about them. They added a bunch of useful moves and evolutions, but the same can be said for all generations. It was still a fun generation, but I wouldn't call it anything special.
