This is how I like to understand Pokémon Villains as.

    Team Rocket

The mob. They take Pokémon for profit, getting rid of anyone who gets in their way. From what I know, that's how mafias operate.

    Team Magma and Aqua

Extremists, something close to Eco-terrorists. I mean, they have a good reason for the stuff they are doing and are aware of the consequences.

    Team Galaxy

Doomsday Cult. Its has the terrorism tactics of Aum Shinrikyo, the charismatic leader resembling David Koresh and Jim Jones, and the universe-ending lore of Heaven's Gate.

    Team Plasma

The Civil War American South(Ghetsis' Plasma), mixed with a bit of PETA(N's Plasma). I like to think of N as Abraham Lincoln, as both freed those who were enslaved(black slaves and Pokémon).

    Team Flare

Nazis. They want to create their own twisted 'beautiful world' and use a WOMD in doing so(remember, Nazis developed nukes). And Kalos is based on France-remember who got trampled by Nazi Germany? Exactly.

    Team Skull

A mix of various American street gangs, plus a pinch of corporate-funded gang stories(remember Robocop 1980s?).

    Aether Foundation

Evil corporations...yeah, that's a bit open, but I don't know too much about evil corps.

What's your opinion? Please, comment below!

That sounds pretty spot on. I hadn't really thought of it beyond Team Rocket being the mob and Team Skull being a street gang. I wonder what the villains in the 8th generation will be like.

Eco-terrorists? I've never thought of them that way LOL.
I do think your understanding of the different groups is pretty spot-on.

Definitely accurate. But for Magma/Aqua, what level of extremist do you mean? Extremist violent group targeting everyone like ISIS, extremist violent group targeting one country or political party like Antifa, or extremist as in they just have beliefs way too far on one side of the argument?

I only really disagree with you on Team Galactic. Cyrus wasn't charismatic or charming or anything like that: he's emotionally dead and clinically psychopathic. He wasn't waiting idly for the end trying to bring his select few with him to a better world, he was proactively creating a new universe (and maybe destroying this one in the process) that would from the ground-up obey his laws and his ideals.

Rather than making him a cult leader, he may be better seen as a political revolutionary. Like starting the Soviet revolution, he's taking the resources he has to tear down a previous society (or universe) and build a new one that has the powerful structure he needs and the removal of unnecessary tradition and individuality that he doesn't want.

And Aqua and Magma are totally extremists. Replace "religion/ideology" with "climate" and they're all over that. "Everything should be my <climate>! My <climate> is the best and I'm going to make everyone abide by my <climate> or else they can <drown/scorch> by not siding with me! Moderate lifestyle and and diversity of <climate> are for the weak!"

Agree with you about the Aqua and Magma there, but Team Galactic is basically a cult. It has all the requirements:
-Ushering in the end of the world.
-Belief that the leader will take the world to salvation, and blindly following him under these conditions.
-A leader that thinks the world is rotten.
    -Harassment of non-believers(Bike Shop owner)
    -A legal front.
    -Police crackdowns(Looker and International Police).

I hope it's not just Team Rocket again. Didn't they already come back in Ultra Sun/Moon? And they're likely the villains in Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee. I like Team Rocket, but they've been the villains in, like, half the games. I want someone new.
