I feel like most artists have used "How to Draw ___" books. The subjects can include, animals, cars, anime, etc. Have you guys ever used these books? Did they teach you anything? I mostly bought these books when I was younger just to see the art in them, I'm not gonna lie. So no, they didn't really teach me anything because I didn't want to take art seriously back then.
ooh boy.. When I was younger I had a ton of How to Draw Cartoon/Anime. They didn't teach me much beyond 'how to trace' as they didn't offer tips, just 'Draw this shape' (sometimes even saying 'put your paper ontop of the shape and trace!'). A few I did get as I got older did show basic drawing tips such as using polygonal shapes to build up the character, but nothing advanced. 2 years ago I picked up a book on how to draw dragons, from J. Neondragon Peffer (she's a amazing artist, I'm a big fan) and it's really good on the details and stuff. Much better than any other 'How to Draw' book I've picked up in the past.
I have a lot of How to Draw books from when I was a kid. However, kid me had no patients, so all I ever did was look at the artwork and do edited tracings. A big regret of mine is not actually using any of those books to learn how to draw when I was a kid.
I only ever owned one 'how to draw' book as a kid, and that was a book on how to draw creatures from the Deltora Quest series. I loved looking at all the pictures and attempting to draw them for myself. I'm pretty sure I ended up successfully drawing Reeah and a Muddlet. I wouldn't say it taught me too much, but I did learn to make my drawings at tad more detailed from it. That's something I guess.
Lol yeah I hated the how to draw anime books. I go to art stores and look at them out of curiosity and they’re the absolute worst
