I don't see how some people stand it.........

I usually just try and tune it out or else I just put in my earphones and listen to some music to drown the noise out.

 

No. I tend to get lost in my own head. I've actually been able to read during a pep rally and retain the information.

 

It needs to be a time when I can super focus, otherwise my concentration is too bad to read anything... It's really annoying.

 

When I'm about 20 pages into reading, I get immersed in the book. The book engulfs me, blocking out all sound.

 

Usually when reading a book, you get so lost in the book, that you don't hear the outside noise. I am always lost in the book lol.

 

Typically, my mind can only focus on one thing. So if I can get into reading, I can block everything else out. But, it can also be a big problem, because sometimes my mind won't turn its focus, and will only focus on whatever else is going on around me.

 

Usually, I get so focused om whatever I'm doing or thinking about (reading in particular) that everything in the background just sort of fades out. I've failed to notice people addressing me, by name, from less than two feet away that I failed to notice.

Sometimes, however, outside influences will snap me out of my focus. I generally don't respond very well to this (it's one of the few ways to get me to yell at someone).

 

I carry around earplugs and threaten anyone who gets too loud. XD

 

I've figured out how to hyper-focus to the point of where I don't actually register sounds while reading. People have to tap me on the shoulder to pull me out of it. Its pretty useful, seeing as people can be all over the place and screaming and I won't even really hear it. My teachers get annoyed with it though, since they can be calling my name and I won't hear them at all.

 

I hate loud noises and whenever people start being obnoxious, critically judgmental thoughts invade my mind, such as:

"Holy crap, please stop chewing with your mouth open big enough for a f****** table to fit inside it God all of you are disgusting little pieces of s***."

Now, if you think that's going a bit too far, kindly realize that I've had to deal with idiots, the same idiots, for most of my life, who think its okay to talk about getting tattoos in locations I will not discuss in public, screaming at the top of their lungs.

 

Yeah, I can focus on reading enough to ignore all of my surroundings, but then I really mean all of it. Good luck with getting my attention when I'm concentrated on whatever I'm reading, you're going to have a hard time.
