I gazed on a ice map of the battle at the Teutoburg Rebel base. The ice-shifted army, led by Eagletalon, was able to overrun the base, and the remains of the rebel army was on the run. I smiled at this. One more victory against not only the rebels, but also against the Light One army that Seawater leads. Then another thought creeped into my mind and I immediately frowned.

“What a waste of good men,” I thought half to myself as I walked away from the map and sat at my ice throne.

There was a knock from the door.

“I could have swore that we weren’t expecting anyone today,” I thought out loud.

I looked at the commando-class that was at my flanks, but they looked just as confused as I did.

    “Come on in,” I said.

    Base entered.

“I thought that you were stationed in the Atlantian Province, Base,” I said with a confused tone in my voice.

“I just thought that you would want to talk to an old and trusted friend like me, since there is nothing going on in Atlantia right now,” replied Base.

“Not that I don’t like talking to you, but I never knew you to be one that comes all this way to just talk.”

“You learn something everyday, don’t we? Sadly, I’m not here to just simply talk about anything anyway, since I have a proposition for you.”

    “What is this proposition?”

“Laserdragon, you have to admit that we are better than the Dark Ones and the Light Ones, we have everything they both have and more. That’s why I believe that we must rebel against the Dark Star and show that we are willing to do what it takes to become better than he is. I have found a way to defeat the Dark Star and the Dragon Star, you just need to trust me as a friend.”

I stared at Base’s eyes and saw that he was determined to do this. I sighed.

“You are asking me to betray a group that I call a second family. A family that is the only group that has never tried to stab me in the back!” I hissed. “You are asking me to betray a star that has put everything on the line to make sure of my survival. Besides that, do you know what happens to traitors in Dark One law? They get tortured to death! And why should we betray something that is immortal in the first place?”

“I knew that you would say something like that, but I beg of you to reconsider,” pleaded Base. “If you just listen to this power that I’ve found, then you wouldn’t hesitate to join me.”

At first I remained silent, but then said, “Commandos, I’m tired of this conversation. Escort Base away.”

The commandos started to surround Base. Then one of the commandos screamed and melted. The other commandos looked around, completely confused as they all one by one were cut down. I stood up shocked at what just happened.Assassin-classes appeared where the commandos once stood.

“Laserdragon, the ice-shifted betas have already concluded that you have become corrupt, and a new leader must take your place. Why not make it me?”

    “Base, you traitor,” I growled.

“I don’t see myself as a traitor, I’m just making the inevitable happen sooner, and therefore sparing lives. Laserdragon, you had half of the right idea on how to rule this world, but I’m going to rule the world the way that it should be, with an iron fist and an immortal army. I would actually find it an honor to fight me as your last battle.”

I couldn’t stand it anymore. I lunged at Base. He didn’t even move as I pushed him to the ground. I looked into his eyes.

“I’m going to put you in your place, Base,” I said as I lifted my claws to deal the killing blow.

Then what I saw wasn’t Base anymore, the dragon was as black as the night.

“But Laserdragon I’m everything that you ever lost,” Base hissed

That voice was familiar, but it couldn’t have been my sister’s voice, she had been dead for nearly two hundred years. Their voices were too similar and I concluded that it was indeed Cinderflower’s voice. I was paralyzed where I stood, staring at my sister’s face. Using my unwillingness to move, Base stabbed me in the chest, and I could barely breath. Base moved Cinderflower’s muzzle near my ear.

“Laserdragon, I guess I’ll let you in on one final secret. I can take the form of anyone that I kill. Do you know what that means? That means that I was the one that killed Cinderflower two hundred years ago, not Seawater,” He paused for a moment. “You have been fighting the wrong enemy. You were so blind by the lie that I told two hundred years ago that you never even tried to find the enemy that was pretending to be your friend.”

All I could feel was anger and betrayal as Base pulled his claws back, and I fell to the ground and closed my eyes.
