If a former generation was removed, what do you think would happen? How would it change the future games of Pokémon (Like gen 6)

    Discuss here.

I could've sworn that there was a thread like this before, but I guess it was archived or something. Oh well.

I think if Gen 5 was removed the only thing that I'd really miss is using TMs. I never used TMs in previous generations unless they were able to be bought again, but with Gen 5 they could be used as many times as you liked. Also, it might have not transitioned into 3D since B/W and B/W2 started using some 3D aspects. Other than some cool Pokémon and some really forgettable Pokémon, there isn't much else that I can think of that Gen 5 brought to the game.

    Generation 1.
Well, there would be no Pokémon if there was no generation 1, now would there? Not to mention, we'd lose the best Pokémon of all, Eevee.

Well... if Gen 1 didn't exist, and assuming Game Freak started Pokémon based on Gen 2, I would've still liked Pokémon, but I would've never met my love, Krabby, until Gen 3, and that makes me wonder if I would've still felt for Krabby.

Then If Gen 2 didn't exist I would've never gotten into Pokémon, as I first started by playing Gold Version as a kid.

If Gen 3 didn't exist Then I would be sad because Gen 3 was my favorite, closely followed by Gen 2, but if they never existed I guess I couldn't have feelings for something that never happened.

Lastly, if the other Gens didn't exist, I wouldn't really mind because I only found to like a few of the newer Pokémon's.

Gen 1 - 4 is when I grew up loving Pokémon and stands as where I rightfully belong to.

    Gen 4. I don't think you'd miss much..
Except overrated stuff, and maybe the somewhat okay music..

I wouldn't care too much if anything after IV was killed off. But if any of the Gens I-IV were taken out, I would be sorely disappointed... I think. Maybe not, seeing as I'd have never known about them in the first place.

As far as the Anime goes, there are 850 episodes. I think there are enough to fill in a couple of deleted Generations.

As much as I dislike Gen. I, if it didn't exist Pokémon probably wouldn't exist or would be postponed 'til later ;; So with that said, gonna have to go with Gen. II, which used to be one of my fave gens. The main reason I'd get rid of it is it didn't bring too many important things to the world of Pokémon. It primarily introduced breeding, genders, shiny color palettes, animated sprites, a female protag., and a competitive battle facility. I would assume most of these would probably come to surface even without Gen. II's existence thanks to time and advances in technology (plus competition with similar games).

I think that if one of the earlier generations was removed, everything would've just moved up one generation. Each generation is based on the previous one, so if one was removed, the whole franchise would kind of just pause until the next generation comes up. That one will once again be based on the generation before it, and so on... So that would mean that we would right now be having a Gen VI game, but only with the features from Gen V, which is an interesting concept when you think about it...

Gen1 obviously would have been the biggest loss, but the next most significant would have been generation 3. Such a solid Pokédex, and the first remakes ever were in that generation, who knows how remakes would have come about without them first in gen3

If one of the newer gens like 5 or 6 where to be removed I would'nt really care, I've most of their Pokémon to be forgetful and lackluster. But if you dare take away 1-4 all hell will break loose with me, those gens just *are* Pokémon to me and have created the world of which I love.

Personaly, I wouldent care if Generation 2 was removed.

To me, Generation 2 just felt like too much of an extension to Generation 1.

Although it would make a large diffrence nowadays, I Personaly don't like the Gen 2 games.

I personally think Pokémon as a whole would severly screw up if ANY generation was removed. They all depend on each other, newer games would not exist if it wasn't for previous games, and older games set the stage for newer games to provide innovation.

On a side note, I would not be playing Pokémon if it wasn't for Pearl. And we would never have Physical/Special classifications.
I also don't understand all this hate on Gen 5.

I dont want to remove a Pokémon generation, especially gen 1 since
the new generation will never come if that happens. But if I had to remove a gen,
I will remove gen 6. Didnt like the post game a lot. Yet I also like it cuz u know...

    I agree with Derahex.

Personally, I think each generation reveals to us a deeper study of the Pokémon world, how it came to exist, its history, etc- and through that, I think it is safe to say that all those generations are connected to one another.

Each generation depends from the generation that come before them. It cannot be possible to remove a generation without making changes in the next generations that they have. In all the cases when you try to remove one there will be always a secondary effect that can have between lower changes to a insanity amount of changes.

its an impossible thought to erase a generation!
All of them have their value to the game and the evolution of the game too!

I think we could do away with Gen IV. It's always irked my OCD how there were two generations of the same handheld platform. In my opinion, Gen V did better than Gen IV in about every way conceivable; gameplay, graphically, the sound, the originality of ALL new Pokémon, as opposed to mostly just evolutions of older Pokémon. And of course, the plot was vastly superior than to Sinnoh's.
That said, Gen V should've been this:

    B/W
HG/SS (with the B/W graphics style)
    B/W2
