If Ash had no travelling partners throughout his journey, how do you think he would fare? Would he survive? What are your thoughts?

If he didn't we would have never gotten this beautiful song:

    Or this one:

I really like Brock for some reason, and the show just isn't the same without him.

Didn't Red technically travel alone in the games? Look where that landed him; he is the strongest Pokémon trainer in the world.

If Ash traveled alone in the anime though, it might be kind of awkward. It wouldn't be quite like, say... Samurai Jack. There would be a lot less action, and he's only a 10-year old child. He wouldn't have Brock's delicious meals to feed off of, and given his goofy mentality, he'd be lucky to survive past Viridian City. Red was an intellectual, whereas Ash is just... a class clown.

I'd not have watched the show past Johto since I wouldn't be able to stand watching Ash on his own for almost twenty years, so.. it would affect me quite a lot. There wouldn't be as much character diversity and we wouldn't have anyone to complement Ash's stubborness. The anime is good at providing variation and that's one of the few things I can still enjoy about it.

In my opinion, the side characters are some of the better characters in the anime series, namely Brock, Dawn, Cilan, Clemont, and Serena. If it was just Ash... I might just barf and stop watching the show.

Let's be honest here. Ash would be lost somewhere in the Veridian Forest, trying to find the Pewter Gym.
Then the world would have be destroyed, several times over.
