If you were a Gym Leader or E4 Member...

For both of these, I'd probably use Dragon-types. Why? Because I can, and they're flat-out amazing.
My Gym Leader lineup would probably be something along the lines of this: Druddigon, Flygon, Multiscale Dragonite, Moxie Salamence
My Elite 4 lineup would be similar, but better: Hydreigon, Haxorus, Kingdra, Multiscale Dragonite, Moxie Salamence.
For giggles, I'd also use good items on my Elite 4 lineup. For example, give Dragonite Leftovers; Haxorus, a Choice Scarf; Hydreigon, a Life Orb, Kingdra, some Choice Specs; and Salamence, a Life Orb.
Dragonite and Salamence are on both because they're good by themselves and great when used together. Dragonite can reliably Dragon Dance a few times thanks to Multiscale, and once it's done so, it's a beast to take down. Salamence can set up on the fly thanks to Moxie, and can be even harder to take down.

My room would be modeled after a castle, with terraces on either side and a fancy drawbridge that drops to allow challengers to approach me. Perhaps some cool little fires on the terraces would be neat. My theme song would likely be "Asperatus" by Mark Petrie (YouTube it, it's an amazing piece).

 

Hmm, this certainly is fun to think about. Yet also quite a challenging one on the department of deciding.
Let's see, a tie between Bug or Ground... EH! Let's just go with ground!
I'm still in-training for competitive battling so ignore my choices, although these have worked perfectly well for me so far, anyway.

Things probs will change as I keep learning more about competitive battling, but so far it'd be around this. Rhydon with eviolite is main Pokémon because hnnngh favorite mon.

The gym would be in a cave. Aw yes. Adventure type of cave rather than some mines, with traps and stuff. Uhuhuhu.
Room would be somewhat relative to a cave design as well. Probs.

Nice thread, Del! I think it'd be ghost for me, seeing as it's my favorite type. For my gym/elite four room. I feel like I'd have it set up like a dark and ghostly ballroom, yet is still fancy. Something much like Mismagius's mansion in Pokepark. Elegant room filled with deep purples and huge windows, a grand staircase and even a place for visitors to sit and watch- preferably at beautifully laid out dining tables. I'd want my battles to feel more like an elegant show than a battle. After the battle there'd be dancing and eating (wow I am lame).

Id have a room like a dim lit castle, long red carpet leading up to my throne, torches on the walls, serpent-like designs around the room, and knight armors or Golurk statues lining the sides between each torch. Clearly, my dream room is the Champions room.

I think I would probably go with water types
Gym leader: Quagsire, Sealeo, Lombre, Starmie
E4: Quasire, Lapras, Ludicolo, Starmie, Gyrados

Theme would probably be something like a water park as the gym layout, possibly using water slides to move between platforms and trainer battles open up new waterslides or trainers battle you as you come out of the water slides. E4 room would be a suspended platform over a lake with waterfalls crashing down on either side of the platform.

 

My type would be fire. For the room, I would base it off of how fire starts, from a glowing ember to a giant bonfire. The player would have to climb up a "fire pit" staircase to reach me, and at the front of the Gym would be small fires on the sides that get increasingly larger as you move up the pillar. The pillar-like structure would resemble a basic set-up of a fire pit, with a glowing "ember" at the base. The flames on my stand would be the biggest and blue, not red.

The E4 room would have the same idea, but the fires would simply get larger towards the center of the room. The walls would have torches on them with banners and a fiery symbol on it. Chandeliers would suspend above the ceiling. The middle of the room would be a floating platform suspended above a pit of lava, with lava spouts coming out of the sides and a steel drawbridge at the entrance.

I'd be a Ghost-type gym leader, like what Vanillite said, but my gym's town would be based more off of a foresty New England town (like Salem, Massachusetts), while the gym itself would be a hockey rink loosely based off of the Honda Center with normal trainers blocking the concourse to the rink (yeaah, I love watching hockey and I'm a fan of the Anaheim Ducks >> ); the ice would be purple and there would be Litwick-shaped lights all around the rink. Not exactly what you'd expect for a ghost-type gym, but it would be different.

Empoleon would be nice so that Fire types can't just go and sweep me. Also Metagross can learn Earthquake. Metagross also counters fighting types, and Scizor would have Aerial Ace to further help against them.

My type would be Ghost. The room would be hazy and dark, illuminated only by floating blue flames. The floor would be a long stretch of scarlet sands with obsidian spires around the outskirts, and there would be a lifeless, broken Golurk with the seal on its chest removed resting against the wall.

After a long thought of what element, Psychic or Ghost, I would choose, I finally came to the conclusion that I would use Ghost. Ghost Pokémon are pretty tricky and clever when trying to get things they want to do. They're also pretty surprising in battles because some of them know the weirdest moves ever.

My Gymnasium wouldn't look creepy like a haunted house or anything. It would actually look like a theatre stage. A huge performance area, for battles as well as actual plays, giant red velvet curtains that hang high. There would be those fancy light fixtures chilling out up there on the rafters. There would also be several rows of comfortable chairs for people to come in and sit in. It would be like, the battle was part of a performance act!

As for the Elite Four stage; I kinda see it being carnival themed. It'd be bright and cheery looking. Maybe there would be a nice small ferris wheel in the corner, with some balloons and rides. But when the challenger comes in, the lights turn off and when they come back on, everything becomes rather eerie looking. Probably like an apocalyptic circus ground from a scary movie.

My Gym would consist of dragon statues pointed towards different walls. They would have buttons to activate them that were hidden, and in order to find them you had to beat Trainers in the Gym who would give you a riddle. The answer to the riddle hinted at where the button was. When you pressed the button, the dragon would breathe fire and melt the wall it was pointed at. I don't know if I described that well...

My Elite Four room would have a hallway with see-through walls, and behind the walls would be lava. There would be a red and gold carpet leading down the hallway and every once in a while vents on the sides of the carpet would shoot out pillars of fire.

I would Definitely choose water if i was going to be and E4 member or be a gym leader. I love water type Pokémon! My gym would consist of platforms and waves of water. you have to choose the right platform when ou jump from platform to platform of the wave will carry you back to the start.

My team would have all different kinds of Pokémon on them, similar to Blue. My team is in my signature.
My gym would be a 3D maze, twisting and turning. And if you go the wrong way, you fight a trainer. Each time you do, however, a passage opens at the beginning of the maze. You can either navigate through the maze and avoid trainers, or you can battle all of the trainers and make a simple, straight path through.

OH, and how my place would look.. my gym place would look like a normal house, but there's a door with flowers (it would be randomized every time) on it, and it would be like that one stage in PMD GTI where you have to pay attention to the flowers.

And for my elite 4 room, it would just be a kind of a ghostly room, with all of the lights off and stuff, but when you get up to me, it would turn into like a nice room with a couch and everything, cause ghost is the opposite of normal. ouo

Man, this is taking a lot of thought! I would probably end up going with a dark-type gym.
The Elite 4 room would be dark (duh) with a slight sand stream. The walls would have bones like the ones on Houndoom and would be lit up only by a couple of rings over the Elite 4 member.
The gym would be pitch-black with only different-colored rings (Umbreon's) to guide the challenger. They would have to memorize a pattern at the beginning of the room and after every trainer battle to walk around a maze. (The lights will turn on after reaching the gym leader for quick healing purposes..!) If the player messes up, he/she has to start over at the beginning of the room. (This is similar to both the Ecruteak and Hearthome gyms.. I'm trying... XD)

Just for fun of course; I don't know much about competitive battling, so I'm sure these aren't the best choices.

Hmm, it's hard thinking up a design for the Gym itself...well, to fit with the whole poison theme, I suppose I'd have trainers navigate through a sewer-like maze, with sewer pipes like slides leading from one part to another.

Waaa~ This really made me think. XD I'm not really a battler so I guess I'd be like the first gym or elite four. I'd specialize in grass types since I absolutely love them, even though they have a buttload of weaknesses.

And, yeah, I understand Sudowoodo isn't a grass type, but come on! A lot of Elite Fours have a Pokémon that doesn't fit their type. XD

As for my gym...I want to be a whole forest wide, with the challengers having to battle both Gym Trainers and wild Pokémon as they go along collecting pieces of a map that would lead to the main building where the final battle would be held in. The maps may sometimes be given by the Gym Trainers or found in the forest around them (maybe in plants and trees, something most people wouldn't really want to press the A button for XD). The main building would be disguised as one of the many nondescript trees and could only be entered if all the map pieces are found. That nondescript tree would open with a secret switch and would lead to a clearing full of many pretty flowers and REALLY large tree (kinda like the one in the Dream World) in the center. Yeah...

As for an elite four room...just mostly green with a buttload shrubs and trees and vines hanging from above.
