I just wanna know. Have you ever had those Pokémon that you thought was a certain type just by looking at it only to find out that is was another type? I know that I thought that Machamp was a rock and fighting type and I also thought that Lugia was a water and dragon type for a while.
Coincidentally enough, its Mega Evolution is actually part Fairy Type! For me, some mons that stand out are Skrelp(I thought it was Poison/Dragon like its evolution... but its part Water), Seel/Shellder (I thought they were Water/Ice like their evos but they are pure Water), Azurill (it's normal/fairy but is a blue bubble mouse???), and Fletchling (It's Normal/Flying but I always mix it up and think it's Fire/Flying like its evolutions).
Yes! To this day I completely forget the Flabébé line isn't grass...it's a very weird thing. Agreed with Bloom about Azurill too, normal sure but why fairy?! In fact, I hardly understand the reasoning behind its entire typing being fairy. Not that I'll complain since it's a cute type and I love those mons but =p The Dwebble line also looks more like a rock/water type than bug. It's based off of a hermit crab anyway, so I tend to forget it's part bug.
One that seems to get me a lot is Drapion. Goes from the big/poison Skorupi to the poison/Dark. Milotic is another one. With the intro of the Fairy typing, it should get that second one. Maybe a mega?
I, too, thought Skrelp was a water type. I also thought Gyarados was part dragon, not flying. And I'm sure I'm not alone when I assumed Sudowoodo was a grass type for the longest time, but then again, that was Gamefreak messing with us, so at least that was intentional. And imagine my shock when I discovered the Goomy line wasn't part poison. Wasted opportunity right there, Gamefreak.
I keep thinking that Alolan Grimer and Muk are Poison/Steel and not Poison/Dark. I also keep thinking that the Flabebe line are Grass/Fairy when their just Fairy and that Fomantis and Lurantis are Grass/Bug when their just Grass. And I keep thinking that Torkoal is Fire/Rock when it's just Fire. I used to forget that Jirachi was part Steel type, since nothing about it seems even remotely metallic. Not to mention that I keep forgetting that Masquerain is Bug/Flying and not Bug/Water like Surskit. And I'm likely to forget that any given Pokémon is Faisy type if it wasn't before Fairy was introduced. I'm sure I could go on, but we'd probably be here all day.
Most I dont forget, but I often forget about Torkoal not being Fire/Rock. Masquerain is also sometimes forgotten for being bug/flying and not bug/water.
I thought/hoped Luxray and Luxio (if not also Shinx) were Electric-Dark. I'm glad that I'm not the only one enamored with that idea, that the modder for SacredGold/StormSilver implemented that change. Glalie seems to me Ice-Rock because it looks like that, and I want Flygon so seems to be a Bug type.
For awhile I thought chansey and audino got changed to fairy, but I found out that that unfortunately didn't happen. The lack of the change has never made sense to me.
This one's kind of out there. Back when I first played blue version and the sprites were pretty bad, I thought Growlithe was a grass type, because the patch of fur on its head looked like a leaf. You can't catch Growlithe in blue, so I never had one of my own in that game.
Torkoal could have been a Steel/Fire type, and I often treat it as such. Only to wonder why that Rock Smash wasn't effective.
I thought Mawile was Dark or Dark/Steel type, but it's pure Steel (I mean, come on, it's based off of a Japanese Yokai, why wouldn't it be Dark???)
I used to think Darkrai was dark/ghost. I always forget Golduck isn't water/psychic, and I also keep forgetting Riolu is pure fighting.
I think that Mawile is actually a fairy/steel type, which doesn't make sense with the style of the Pokémon.
Spoiler: Mawile Dex entries Its dex entries put a lot of emphasis on its cute appearances and its steel horns, so fairy/steel makes a lot of sense to me.
It always interested me as to why Dialga, Palkia and Giratina had the typings that they had, then it struck me: their typing is representative of the concepts of matter: solid, liquid and gas. Dialgia is the solid (steel type), Palkia is the liquid (water type) and Giratina is the gas (ghost type), whereas I thought they Dialga was a Water type due to colour, Palkia was a fighting type due to stance and Giratina was either an electric type due to colour or a flying type due to its 6 "tentacle wings" as I call them.
