What are your thoughts on the social media site, Facebook? Do you think that is has gotten too intrusive? Most of the world uses Facebook now, it is an incredibly popular and useful means to connect with friends and family, and even meet new people, but in recent days facebook has certainly upped the amount of intrusion, such as the news feed on the side which you cannot disable.

Do you think it is right to be forced to see all of the negative news of the world? There is an option called "I don't want to see this" that will remove the article that is bothering you, but it will not stop articles from appearing again. There is no way to remove the news feed.

I think a news feed is irrelevant to facebook, it distracts from what we all came there for originally. I am not the sort of person that wants to see all of this news about the world going to end, wars and people getting beheaded. I'd rather see good news, but sadly there is no option for this.

What is your opinion on the matter?

Well, since Facebook is the only way I catch up on world news, I'd say it's useful. And I mean ignore it if you will, usually I'll scroll through it to see if anything catches my interest.

Besides, not all of it's dreary and depressing- that's how I found out the the Age of Ultron trailer had been released. :3

I use Facebook most of the time. It's a great way for me to keep in touch with my extended family and friends. I don't find Facebook to be intrusive at all, unless my account suddenly starts getting spammed with requests to play FarmVille.

I actually don't own a Facebook. You see, I don't like having a lot of my real information out there except for my name and my experiences in Brazil. I have heard some complaints from other people about it though.

I have one, but mostly it's used to keep up with people, I read our daily paper for news.

I don't think it's too bad since everything optional. Like I don't display much info about myself at all.

I check my FB very quickly once a day, and it's rare that I actually post something on it. I do find it to be intrusive, but the same can be said about other major websites like Google, YouTube, MSN, Yahoo, Twitter etc.

The two things problems mentioned, the news feed and the one on the sidebar, can both be fixed according to the user preference. The sidebar showing your friends' activity can be hidden simply by dragging the line under it so it will be covered. As for the News Feed, it shows you posts from pages and people you follow. Just click that down arrow on the rightmost part of the top bar and select News Feed Preferences to customize it. So when you see disgusting posts, it's kinda really your fault for following a page that posts stuff like that. Besides, these features aren't so bad. I honestly rely on the News Feed a lot because that's usually where I can catch up with trending worldwide news that I won't have time for to search on the internet.

Okay, I think Facebook might be a little intrusive at all, but that's just SNS for you. It all depends on the one using it after all, and I think Facebook did a great job by allowing the users to customize their own Facebook experience.

Actually, you're mistaken. The news feed on my facebook isn't related to people that I follow at all, it shows news articles from across the world, such as stuff about wars and more. I didn't follow any pages that posted about that, or friends either, and there was no way to close it.
