I have been a fan of Pokémon since I had Pokémon Blue and I've had a feeling that as the Pokémon games go on, they get easier.

Are they, or is it just me? Who agrees with me? Who disagrees with me? I'm interested to know.

I would say no. The only thing that might make it easier is that now all that types are balanced. It will especially be like that in sixth gen when Fairy will come in, being super effective to the OP Dragon Type.

However, with more Pokémon there come more type combinations to remember, and in a sense, I find that makes the game a little harder. In order to successfully battle every Pokémon out there, you would have to know the type coverage and the stats of all Pokémon. That would be easier with 151 than it would 649.

Yes. Notice how Pokémon games these days have guides that show you everything. In the Gen 1 remakes, not only did the old man teach you how to catch Pokémon, but he gave you a Teachy TV. NPCs teach you how to jump ledges now. I'm sure X and Y will have some NPC that will teach you how to sit on benches. NPCs pretty much hold your hands in the newer games. Not to mention the levels in the newer games have gotten really easy; in RBY, the gym leaders (especially later ones) and the Elite Four had ridiculously high levels. And Yellow expected you to win with a Pikachu as your starter!

... Yes, it is getting easier, in my opinion.

Pokémon has gotten easier. For example poison could make Pokémon faint in the field in the early games. Starting with Gen 4 the poison-fainting went away, and in Gen 5 poison didn't even hurt you at all in the field. Battles have gotten easier by comparison too, the only really tough battles are the optional ones in the newer games.

I remember playing Pearl on the DS and the elite 4 had around LV 50-65 and in blue and yellow (correct me if I'm wrong) by the time you reach the 5th gym leader, enemy Pokémon are about that level. The elite 4 had LV 80s.

I suppose they're trying to make it easier on any younger players who pick up the game.

But I agree with Shadow Blaze that their are too many Pokémon and new types are being made up (in a way kills it for me) to change Pokémon.

It may well be. The earlier games didn't have much on them since technology was at that state, so the experience was a bit raw, but now with more powerful hardware and software Gamefreak has added all sorts of things to help little kids along their way in the game, such as the tutorials and demonstrations. There have also been things like more moves released, giving a greater variety of battle strategies; a physical-special split, giving more Pokémon more use and adding to the various ways to battle, and there have been more Pokémon that are more effective at defeating opponent Pokémon.

But it also has to do with experience. Pokémon was a very new RPG back at the time of its release so it wasn't something anyone was familiar with. Now that it's been around long enough for people to have played it for a greater portion of their life, there are fewer people who are unfamiliar with the game.

I don't know how I managed to get through Crystal with such a poorly developed team just laden with HMs and zero STAB moves, and at small levels but for the lv.92 Meganium, but nonetheless, I wasn't that good at the game when I was younger. This is what it was like for the people who picked up Pokémon when it was released. Now, I've had plenty of experience with the newer games so I've learned about how to actually play it effectively, so it seems easier to me.

But having said that, it can be hard to tell at times if the games are getting easier or if you're just getting better with experience.
