Are you the kind of person who buys video game consoles on launch day, or do you prefer to wait until there is a more substantial library before you make that (still rather expensive) purchase? Have you ever bought a system on launch day before, or stayed up for a midnight launch? Was it worth it?
I have never purchased a console on launch day, and I probably will not ever do so. The launch of the console never really provides the best look at how the library will be in the near future (except WiiU, that launch showed us what we had to look forward to). I buy my consoles simply based on the games that are on the platform, not the quality of the hardware itself. The trigger is pulled when that one special game is revealed, for me.
I haven't bought a console on launch day before and have no plans to do so moving on. Why? Because it seems like they're always at their most expensive when they first come out and I'd much rather wait until they're cheaper/on sale/can be bought used.
It has to be a special occasion. I bought the Switch on launch day...sorta, because I knew it was going to sell out fast and be out of stock if I tried later.
Special Plan: Wait until the expected titles are out and the console is beginning to lower in price. I don't think I've ever bought a console, or any type of device, on its day of launch, so I guess I'm just one of those people who sticks back until ready. Even now, I still haven't touched a majority of the more recent consoles I hear a lot about, like WiiU and Switch. So, I'm sticking back and waiting.
It depends--if it's a console, I wait for its library to build up (and give them a chance to work out the kinks). If it's a game, I get it Day 1 if it's part of a series I like (eg. Pokémon)
Until two years ago, every console release I witnessed was when I didn’t have the money to get one. On the day of the Switch’s release, I brought some games to sell so I could get the Wii U version of Breath of the Wild. I had raised so much money from selling that my mother was willing to chime in for the rest. As much fun as I had playing the new Zelda game on a new system, I doubt I’ll ever buy a console on launch again. I’d rather wait for a console to get a decent library before forming over hundreds of dollars.
