It's Pretty Crazy that gens 1-5 are now considered "Retro".

I mean, I remember back when Platinum was announced when I was like ten or something (ayyy, I was old enough!), and B/W and B2/W2 came out, but they don't really feel old, at least not the Unova games. I don't know, but realizing that Gen 5 isn't really "new" any more is really freaking me out. I dislike being reminded of my own mortality O_O

Hmm... I'd say as soon as one of the games in the franchise gets a remake, then the former game becomes "retro", but god no, Gens 4 and 5 are not retro in any way. Sure they may be a bit older, but not that old. I honestly think that anyone who says that Gen 5 is retro is completely out of their minds. I do remember it being a long while ago those games being announced, but they aren't retro, that's for sure.

Even if they'e not quite "retro," Generation V is now 4 years old. Honestly, it seems like the games were so much older. I seem to think of myself as a lot younger when playing the Gen IV games, and geez, I can barely remember playing the Gen III games. although my memory is just horrible

But wow, Pokémon is very, very close to 20 years old (in fact, I'm 8 days older than the franchise), and that kinda boggles my mind a bit. I can't wait to see what they've cooked up for their 20th anniversary, hopefully it'll be something huge. :D

Yeah, the term "Retro" means something more than four years old. By my personal definition, retro means its styling is entirely unrecognizable to today's mainstream technology, fashion, language, et cetera. Gens 1 and 2 are certainly retro, and 3 is a maybe.

I heard some Backstreet Boys a few days ago and thought to myself "wow, this stuff is retro" (or I would have if not distracted by the bleeding in my ears. Also yes, I am ancient enough to remember them). A little while later I heard a song by Rise Against and thought something more like "It's been like seven years since I've heard anything out of them", but not quite labeled them retro since their sound back then is still similar to today's alt rock.

I... guess that's a kind of specific metaphor, relying on your, the reader's, musical and pop culture history to be similar to mine like that. Still, best thing I've got in recent memory.

gen 1 and 2 are retro sure, 3 maybe, but 4 and 5?? not a chance. the people who are saying it is retro are probably like 9-10 years old, because those games came out less than 10 years ago. it is not retro at all. the youngins are probably calling it retro because it is not 3d

It could be because technology is evolving so fast that these games are obsolete, and therefore seen as "retro" because of that.
I don't see them as personally, but I think that's the reason for it.

It honestly makes me feel old. I've been playing the games since Gen 1 when I was 6-7 years old. Gens 1-3, I would consider retro because these games came out mid 90's, early-mid 2000's. Not so much for Gens 4 and 5, but those did come out a while ago. We are reaching the end of Gen 6 and hopefully reach Gen 7 by 2017, which would mean Pokémon has been out for 20 years.

All previous gens are now considered retro? Yeah right I wouldn't call the ones past gen 3 and gen 3 is only a maybe really, gen 1-2 sure I would call them that. Gen 4 is not even 10 years yet so I can't see how it and gen 5 can be considered retro..

What? All five previous Gens are now considered retro? No way! For me, the Pokémon games up 'til Emerald are retro because wireless communication wasn't introduced until Emerald. However, games like B2W2 are not retro at all! For Pete's sake, you could communicate with other players over the internet! There were events just like in Gen 6! That's not retro at all O.o
