“These shackles… They twist my wrists, I feel my hands tingle and broken... The spike against my throat pricks me, and I feel my mouth go numb.”

The world of Eldbroles, a cruel land where the strong dominate through sheer intimidation. Our story begins in Lunarfall cells, with our character: Number Eleven.

Cold, discreet, hidden away, our cells. During the hours of Juva to Hookthall, power is off, as the sun is inactive. Only guards and special team members are allowed to have power through all of the chain lengths, the time tracked by a chain hung on the wall, clicking into place, slowly rotating a sphere that showed a symbol that no one recognized. The prisoners made their own names for the symbols.

“Wagtov shiete Hookthall.” A cackling voice woke a young girl up.

"Mmmnmm, Seven?” the girl slowly blinked into consciousness. She sat up looking at a young boy. “Seven, it’s…” She looked towards a chain dangling from the ceiling. “Hookthall. What’re you doing awake?”

“Couldn’t sleep, the guards zapped me pretty badly... Duat it never seems to hurt any less.” Seven pulled up his tattered cloth which barely acted like a shirt. “Look at this nasty imprint.” Across his ribs was a splatter of black marks, as if black paint was spilt on him. “I wish I had the ladies uniform, it looks so much more covering.”

“It’s... really not, it’s just a bit more baggy, but it’s about the same amount as your guys. They just don’t want to constantly give us new ones as our br-” Eleven was interrupted by the bars being rattled. The cell floor started to hum and the room started to warm. “Seems they’re turning on the sun again.” She looked at the chain“Huma...” She stood up from the cracked concrete of the floor. “Seven, do you think the guards... are going to make us work in the Terto or the Mora?”

Eleven turned to Seven. Her lips quivered a bit. Seven shook his head “I’m… unsure.”

As they chatted about various topics, the cell heated up more and more. Eleven grabbed at the cuff of her rags. “It’s been getting hotter and hotter here lately… Do you think maybe the cell bars will melt one day and we can runaway?”

Seven stared at the cold bars, his eyes empty. “If we were to even run, where are we to go? You’re only… fifteen and I thirteen. We got taken here when we were seven, and I’ve felt the sun turn on 3012 times now. And yet I feel like I hardly even know this location.”

Eleven went silent and wrapped her arms around her knees as she sat on the warming concrete. “Yeah… It seems that each awakening of the sun, I learn nothing new about this area. I remember Twenty two tried to escape once. And… I still remember the stain that was left of them. Burnt to a crisp as they were thrown into the sun. Splattering the viewing windows as their body was torn apart and tossed.” Seven didn’t even shiver, just stared down to the floor.

“Our education isn’t as good, we only have knowledge we learnt in elementary school, so that’s not helpful. Though the older kids when we were younger were pretty helpful, making it easier to communicate with one another.” Eleven's hair drooped over her face as if a mask as she spoke. “I feel like we have this conversation every morning, and it doesn’t hurt any less... I miss them older kids, lucky bitches to be free.”

The two spoke in tongues, a language made by the prisoners. "Suntal." The language was a bunch of random words merged together to make new meanings. The prisoners never really learnt to speak nor read during their years of school. So they made their own words to communicate. A few examples, Hoothall is six. Huma is four, g is and. They looked at each letter, number, and how what they were describing looked. Hookthall came from the number 6 looking like a hook. Some words also came from the districts of the Lunarfall cells. Those were named by the guards using an AI to create random combinations of letters, so even those without much education would know where to go by just a glance. Houvor, Mora, Terto all look different from one another, allowing for it to be easily known where you are to go. I's and L's never went close to one another. Lowercase b's and d's never in the same word.

The bars slammed as a white robed figure walked in front of the cell. “HEFF, shut up! It’s time for you two to get ta work.” A long boney hand emerged from the cloak. The cell bars lowered into the ground and Eleven and Seven stood. “Eleven, core duty. Seven… Terto.” The two stepped forward, Eleven turned to Seven who looked as if its eyes were about to burst with tears. He shook as the boned figure bent down and examined his nails. “Too long...” He took out a clipper and pliers, and with a crack Seven's fingernails became blood red. His fingernails were removed one by one.

His blood splashed onto the concrete as he bawled. His toenails weren’t long enough to be deemed ready to be chopped off. The guard walked over to Eleven as Seven nearly fell to the ground in agony. He grabbed Eleven's skinny fingers, examining the nails. “You’re lucky. You’re a few inches off. Biting them won’t save them for long.” The guard arched his back and looked down at the two. Eleven's hands were shaking and Seven was trembling. “Eleven, you will work on the Houvor. And Seven you will work Terto.”

The guard walked off as Seven fell to his knees, tears and blood mixed together on the floor. Eleven bent down and held Seven. “We’re in this together Seven. I’m sick of our nails being cut off as well. I’m sick of the work. Let’s escape... Let’s make this world ours. And make a new civilization for us.” Eleven's tears ran onto Seven's back, Seven's blood tainting Eleven's rags. “I will be… The girl to steal the moon for you.”
