"a type of music of black American origin characterized by improvisation, syncopation, and usually a regular or forceful rhythm, emerging at the beginning of the 20th century. Brass and woodwind instruments and piano are particularly associated with jazz, although guitar and occasionally violin are also used; styles include Dixieland, swing, bebop, and free jazz."

What do you think of jazz music? Do you have a favorite jazz tune? Favorite jazz group? Favorite jazz singer? Favorite jazz instrument?

I have a confession. Even though I'm a saxophone player, I like nothing better than the sounds of a great jazz trombone. Jazz is definitely my favorite genre of music, and I wish that I would be able to study it longer than I've gotten to thus far. I'm a senior in high school, and I've not even been playing jazz for a year and a half, and it's rather depressing.

Oh my goodness, I love jazz. It's just so uplifting. I mean have you even heard scat? The best!
Personally, my favorite jazz singer is Ella Fitzgerald. Her voice and tone is absolutely amazing.
Whenever I'm in a bad mood, jazz is the go to.

Oh man, I love scat. I've never tried to jazz vocals, and I attempted to do some scat just now, and I failed, so I have a definite appreciation for those who scat.

    It's the best yo.

Do you have a favorite jazz tune?
    Can't beat "It don't mean a thing".

    Favorite jazz group?
Ooh it's hard to choose! The Swingrowers are good, also the Consouls... and Insaneintherain. As for bands of the old times, I quite like Duke Ellington's band.

    Favorite jazz singer?
Ella Fitzgerald is pretty damn good. For an example, look up her cover of How High the Moon. Dat scat bruh.

    Favorite jazz instrument?
I love playing trombone, but the bass gives me eargasms when played the right way.

It's not like I listen to jazz on a regular base (I don't really listen to music much), but I do love the great vibe that comes from jazz music. Last year, we had to do a jazz assignment in my music class, and it was one of my favourite assignments that year since we got to improvise so much. That doesn't mean it sounded well though
My favourite jazz instrument is definitely the saxophone. I love the rough sound!

..I remember that name from somewhere. I believe we discussed this in our music class a few years ago. I didn't believe it was difficult until I tried it. Man, I'll never do that again. I really respect the people who are good at scatting.

Oh god I love Jazz. I only came to realise this when I was trying to find more genres with technical basslines, and when I discovered artists like Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorius, as well as non-bassist Jazz musicians like Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis I knew it was for me.

My favourite jazz tune has to be Cantaloupe Island by Herbie Hancock, more for the personal memories I have associated with the tune more than anything else. It was the first tune that a jazz group that I was in learned and we had some great time jamming over it and experimenting playing it over different feels.

Favourite jazz group I'd have to say is SMV, 3 killer bassists in one group and they have some great tunes :)

Favourite instrument will probably seem a bit strange but it would have to be drums. The drums are what dictate the feel of the piece and allow for soloists to be more fluid with their timing in certain licks as they still know which beat to land on to make the solo sound tasteful as opposed to a mistake. As a bassist, it's hard to lay down a groove without a drummer to help set the mood while keeping the group in time (obviously good time-keeping is important for everybody, not just the drummer but the drummer certainly makes this much easier).

As for how long I've been playing jazz, I was in the school Big Band for 2 years, as well as two smaller groups at the same time.

He does more of a electro/rock style, but Frank Klepacki has been a big influence on my appreciation for a good drum beat and bass lines:

It helps that he had plenty of jazz/funk influences before he started composing :P

A good bit of sax is all I need, tbh. My favourite instrument so I enjoy this genre a lot. 8)

ooHHhoOOohoO Jazz is so amazing!!!!! I've been in my school Jazz band for about 2 years and i love every song we play, and we've played about 50-60 songs. Some of my favorites have to be "I heard it through the grapevine", "It don't mean a thing (if it ain't got that swing)", and T.W.A.(trumpets with attitude). I play the Alto Sax, but anytime I hear our bari sax or Trombone play, I just go "mmmmMMMmMMMmMmMMM that's some good shoot"
