Least favorite thing about Gen 5?

I guess the fact that you could only catch gen V Pokémon in B/W, although I didn't mind it too much myself.

No wait...

The people who hate gen V just because of a few Pokémon that aren't creative/original enough to their taste. There are enough awesome gen V Pokémon to make up for the few you don't like -_-

Hmmmmmm......The whole dream world mechanic and that it's effectively going to reduce the allure of the games after Nintendo slaughtered it (or soon to slay it, anyway, not sure if the wi-fi is gone yet or indeed if the service has been shut down)?

 

I didn't like how turtorially it was, you could never seem to escape the hands of NPC's and they'd tug you along until you finally beat the elite 4. and then they did a bit of that after. It's just you never got to explore ya know? I don't mind a trainer teaming up with me periodically (in fact I love it, it's my favorite way to train) but I don't need to be forced to learn everything, I have played before you know.

 

Yes, you're totally right. I was so annoyed by that in gen V and I simply forgot. You can't walk 5 freaking steps before someone randomly appears to tell you some uninteresting stuff. Really, really annoying.

 

I didn't exactly love the battle subway, coming off platinum's frontier and all we get is a battle tower knockoff I was pretty disappointed

 

I agree with Astral and Hidden. Wasn't a huge fan of the starters either.

 

I think the most disappointing part about Gen V was how linear and dull the region design was initially. Going in a large, literal circle wasn't exactly my idea of fun. That said, it did make up for it somewhat with the seasons changing how the routes and towns looked. In B2/W2 they manage to make a more interesting design for the region, but the plotline was pretty lame. Unfortunate.

 

Assuming we're talking about within the games themselves, I think my least favorite thing is the backsprites in battle. Kind of a weird thing to have as my literal least favorite thing about the generation considering that a lot of people could argue that the backsprites aren't that big a deal. But they're there, and I don't like them. Sometimes they didn't even look like Pokémon they were just way to pixelated. I don't know. I didn't like it... The backsprites in these games definitely could have been a lot clearer.

 

I didn't like the musicals much. They weren't a very good replacement of contests. No matter what theme you chose every musical is more or less the same; in contests, no matter how many times you would bump into a CPU character, their Pokémon would do something different in every contest. In musicals you're just watching the same thing over and over with different backrounds.

I also don't like how you can't battle the Champion when you first go against the E4 and Champion. I liked the plot twist of how Team Plasma popped out like that when you're about to battle the Champion, but it could have been better if there was SOME way to battle him on the first go. I'm aware you can battle the E4 and Champion as much as you want, but some people don't like to hassle going through the first four just to battle the champion when you've already finished the game.

 

I didn't like how there were no pre/post-evolutions of existing Pokémon, as every generation has done before (aside from gen 1, of course). I was really looking forward to seeing some new evolutions but they were all separate. Even then, they were still connected because a lot of them were retreads of existing Pokémon, like the Machop, Magnemite, Geodude and Poliwag lines. Oh look, another three-phase mechanical line. Another three-phase muscly fighting type line. Another three phase rock line. Another tadpole line. They infuriated me.

I also didn't like some of the Pokémon and still don't now, and I hated the way the game pandered to younger audiences instead of at least acknowledging the existence of well, the existing fanbase. So. Many. Tutorials.

 

I don't actually remember that many tutorials o.0 Or at least not in Black. Haven't gotten to my copy of White 2 though

Things I don't like in Black:
The bottom screen should have the bag items somewhere. Having it taken over by the CGear is annoying as hell (especially since it's completely useless now). Going into your bag to get a repel with dowsing machine on? Waay too much work @_@

Lack of water types. It's Spring, I picked Tepig, I didn't pick Tirtouga. I got through the entire plot finding nothing but tympoles and that's kinda sad...

Unova is just a bland region, circular design, not a lot of different little nooks and crannies to search around in (I think we need Cut for like one tree? I dropped off my Cut pkm before like the 2nd gym and never needed it ever again)

Wtf is Team Plasma on about? They want to liberate pkm, fine but why do they have pkm then? It got to a point where I would have happily welcomed the idea that "no. Team Plasma befriends all their pkm" or something (anything!) They actually had a very good front just horrible execution.

The exp share in this game, did they change the formula for it or something? If I stuck it onto one pkm as soon as I got it like I do in gen 2 I'm sure it could get to lvl 100 by the time I got to the elite 4 while my main pkm that's actually doing the fighting would only be at lvl 40 or so

Yeah, they did something with the experience points in gen V. I'm not sure what is was, but they changed something xD

 

They changed the amount of exp you got. The higher your Pokémon's level, the less exp you got for beating the same Pokémon. I still managed to train my team pretty well, but it was definitely annoying

My experience of Generation V was tainted from the start, thank you, [unnamedindividual], but one thing I feel like I can complain about is Pokestar Studios... specifically, the face you are required to make one movie to proceed the plot! I understand the appeal of movie-making. I certainly like how the punishment for messing something up in a movie is tied in to the game mechanics. But why do I have to put down a gripping story to go participate in a movie?

The bad thing about this? I once saw someone say that you shouldn't complain about the game's distractions (Contests, Musicals) because they are optional. Now they've gone and made the attractions required.

 

The C-Gear. Just. Ugh.
It was completely useless for people who don't use online services and I really loved the touch screen mechanics from HG/SS (Pokémon never really used the touch screen as much as it can, that always bothered me)

Agreeing with Agent Shade. It didn't particularly annoy me, but at the same time, I would have felt better about it if I didn't have to fight the E4 all over again. I know that the E4 is part of the challenge, but it was a struggle to get to the champion, and then I couldn't fight him until I went through them again later. That kind of annoyed me.

 

As an addition to my previous complaint, this. This sums up every time I log onto my Gen V game.

"Would you like to turn on the C-Gear?"
-->Not on your life.
"Certain features may be restricted. Are you sure?"
-->You're lucky there's a fast button sequence to shut you up, you know?
