Hi everyone, I created this thread so that we can discuss the new feature of prehistoric Pokémon and the new Ancient Devolution.
    -----
I'll start the discussion by raising this point, will the Pokémon who go through the Devolution have lower stats and different abilities.

I'm kinda thinking it's more based on the realistic version of evolution.
Like the intelligence and civility of the two will devolve to a more primal will, like Primal Dialga in mystery dungeon explorers of Time/Darkness/sky. So groudon and kyogre would devolve, seeking only one purpose, which might be to eliminate the other, possibly due to exposure to the stones or whatever it was (it's been a while ok?)

    that's my theory at least.

For a fact we have seen a Primal Devolution before.

Meet Primal Dialga, the first Primal Devolution known. It's from the mystery dungeon games.

And yeah I think it has something to do with the stones to awaken them like in the original games.

I'm really interested in how they are going to put this in the story line, one thing is certain though, with this the story line isn't going to be entirely the same as the story line from the originals

Pfft. Honestly, Ancient Devolution is exactly the same as Mega Evolution. They just added it so that Groudon and Kyogre would be a little more 'special' than the other Megas. That, and it'll be a part in the storyline. It's really not that big of a deal, it's just Mega Evolution, but with a different name.

This is pretty much how I took it as well. Ancient Devolution just sounds like it will be Mega evolution, stat increase maybe an ability change, just with a different name. Hopefully, that different name is because of story relevance.
I think it would be interesting if that story relevance was what HiddenLore said. Maybe it does have to do with them losing some intellect and getting their will getting narrowed down to a single thing, that being eliminating each other. I think it'd be cool if the recreated teams (Magma and Aqua) were trying to make the Ancient Devolution happen so that they could just sit back and the Groudon and Kyogre fight it out for them.

Wait where's this term coming from? Some back story could be helpful o.0

Anyways, the term "devolution" sounds like the Pokémon are actually getting weaker as they evolve. Don't see why Mega Evolution needed to be changed. They don't really need 2 terms meaning exactly the same things

From serebii "A new feature introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire is Prehistoric/Primal/Primeval Pokémon. These Pokémon seem to work in a similar manner to Mega Evolution through a process called Ancient Devolution, and sends the Pokémon back to their prehistoric state. Full details on this feature are not known"

I was thinking the same thing Kuroida.

I'm just hoping that we get to see Primal Dialga as an Ancient Devolution in the main series games. More forms, please.

But what would the point be in making a Pokémon weaker? No one would ever use it.

That's my point. The term "devolution" makes it seem the Pokémon are getting weaker since they're "devolving" (moving to a lower level). They should have just stuck with calling it "evolution"

It's called devolution because the Pokémon are turning back into their primal state. They don't get weaker, they transform just like Mega Evolution.

Yeah Groudon and Kyogre were a lot stronger in their primal form, before Rayquaza came to settle things down.
And everyone talking about primal Dialga, please stop, I never managed to beat him and it's an unpleasant memory xD

I wonder if Rayquaza is getting a primal form since you guys say it calmed dow Groudon and Kyogre.
