Audio Books let you hear the emotion in each character's voice rather than just let you imagine it, though that may take out some of the imagination out of the books themselves. But what is your favorite Audiobook that you've ever listened to? Do you like them or hate them?
I gotta be honest: I personally have never listened to an audiobooks before. This is because I'm so used to growing up reading old fashioned physical books and using my imagination to fill in the emotions that the characters must feel during a particular moment. With audiobooks, there's no reason to use my own imagination to feel the emotion, rather it's just explained to me. I don't know whether or not that's good or bad, but it's just different. That said though, I'm willing to give audiobooks a shot. I simply don't have the free time these days to sit down and read like I used to so an audiobook would hopefully make things go by faster.
I prefer audiobooks over regular books, to be honest. One of the main selling points for me is that when listening to an audiobook, I can do something else as well. When I was young I used to listen to audiobooks while playing videogames, but now that I'm older I usually listen while walking or in the car. I guess that my favorite audio books would probably be the Harry Potter series. Jim Dale does an amazing job voicing all of the characters. Seriously, I think he actually won an award for Goblet of Fire because of how many characters he was able to voice in that one and still make them distinct from each other. I really wish he had gotten to play Dumbledore in the movies. Right now I'm in the middle of Star Wars The Last Command, the last book in the Thrawn Trilogy which are all good books. After that, I'll be moving on to The Elfstones of Shannara. It will be interesting to see just how different it is from The Shannara Chronicles TV series, which was based, very loosely, off of it.
I have uhhhhhh.... never listened to an audiobook XD I love reading. I could spend hours reading if I wanted to. I spent a good deal of my childhood reading (I finished the Harry Potter series in less than a week when I was 10). I can understand the appeal of audiobooks, but tbh, I've never seen the need to have one. It's fun to fill in the blanks/worldbuild yourself instead of having someone else read it to you imo.
I rarely listen to audiobooks, but when I do, I don't regret it. We have a couple audiobooks in the car - Niel Gaiman reading some of his children's books and short stories (like Fortunately, The Milk and "Wolves in the Walls") and David Tennant reading the second How to Train Your Dragon (How To Be a Pirate, I think it's called. Something about pirates). Niel Gaiman does a great job at voicing his writing, and his voice is really recognizable and interesting to listen to. Same with David Tennant, who is able to make every character sound very different and still keep them all completely ridiculous. I'm not sure if I'd want to get more, though; I still like reading better, and I prefer music to audiobooks in the car.
