Like... I've been watching a ton of space videos on youtube and like... I cannot explain into words how fascinating space is, and how fascinating certain planets are. There exists planets in which it rains actual rock and even glass like that's freaking terrifying and amazing. I hope I'm not alone in adoring the cosmos and I hope that some point in the future we'll learn a lot more about it than we do now.
We're not alone. In all seriousness, though, I LOVE space (maybe even more than the Space Core), so much so that I wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid. Even now, I love going outside at night and staring up into a clear sky in wonder.
Yes hello I love space. In my astronomy class we actually used a program where we could schedule huge telescopes from the Cerro Tololo observatory in Chile to take pictures of galaxies and planets. Space is so pretty yet terrifying I would live there if I could.
we could be alone in the universe but yet there is always the possibility that there is someone else out there in space that is sapient. We can all agree that both thoughts, in their own way, can be terrifying.
I encourage everyone reading this thread to watch this video: Like... when I watched it the first time, it really just blew me away how there are so many weird-ass types of weather conditions on other planets. @_@
As a kid, I always wanted to be an astronomer not anymore lol. Space is amazing, beautiful, and vastly full of the unknown; it's terrifying, if I'm honest. I think there's plenty of good reason for people to both be in love with it, and be afraid of it. While I might not want to study space anymore, I won't deny that it's seriously fascinating.
Space is rad, man. The fact we barely know anything about what's out there is pretty awesome, since it makes every major discovery that much more exciting. It's kind of a place of endless possibilities.
Space is awesome! I remember being fascinated with it as a kid. And well, I still am I love reading about anomalies in space, especially those that are really bizzare or are even evidence for possible alien life. Like that star that was discovered a while back that scientists thought may have had an alien megastructure build around it due to dimming in an odd way. I'm also fascinated with nebulae, and I love looking at pictures of them. So cool looking.
Space is awesome, and terrifyingly big. Like, do you even know just how BIG space is? It's freaking crazy. And here we are, just a speck on a rock... EXISTENTIALISM. A few of my favorite things discovered out there: A planet that absorbs almost ALL light that hits it, so it appears as almost pure black. Also, it's super close to the star it orbits, so is hot as balls. Black holes burp. Whodda thunk? I thought they just endlessly sucked stuff in, but turns out they can spit stuff out too!
This pretty much sums up my opinion lol. Space has always been interesting to me, I even have an app on my phone that has our solar system and some other stars in real time and has a bunch of extra info availible. I love it xD
Question: what are everyone's thoughts about black holes? I find them absolutely fascinating. I'm not sure what I'm amazed more by: the fact that they essentially swallow everything that comes into contact with their event horizon, or just how freakin' massive they can be. @_@
This thread was made for me. I love space so much that I'm going to research it in two weeks! No joke. Going to be assessing data of a compact binary and I'm so excited! I never though looking at spectra would be exciting but it is. After being in school for space for so long, I was forced to pick my favorite aspects of space to research and I chose stars. I love those huge thermonuclear reactors that blaze across the universe, but what I enjoy the most, are the stars that aren't thermonuclear reactors. That's right, I'm talking about my favorite star type, a neutron star. Just because I love stars doesn't mean that's the only thing I love. Galaxies are so complex and spectacular, Big Bang Nuclearsynthesis is so cool, Galaxy Cluster mergers are fun to watch, and type 2 supernova's are one of the most fun to dissect their dynamics. I'm also giddy about the future. In the 2020's LIGO gravity wave detector will become fully operational along with two others, LSST will be operational(which is a survey telescope. The old survey telescope gave us thousands of research papers throughout its life and this new one will be 48 times better(they have equations to calculate this specific number for some reason)), and of course the new Hubble telescope will be going into space, the James Webb. When James Webb launches, it will be like when Hubble first launched, a brand new images never seen before will come to light. I wont make this too long so I'll just leave it there but if you're interested, check out the news. All my astronomy professors are squealing in delight at all these new telescopes coming out in a few years.
So, in case it wasn't obvious to people who know about me, I love space and have an undying fascination with it. And for anyone else who didn't know this about me, then hello, it's nice to meet you for the first time. Space is so indescribably beautiful and colourful, and there's so much out there waiting to be seen. Not so much touched, as it's all too far away and we won't reach any of it any time soon, but it's all still incredibly pretty to look at. A lot of precision goes into the field of astronomy, and that's something I can definitely respect. I believe a large reason why we people find space so fascinating is because it's so strange, so foreign, so alien - pun slightly intended. (I'm using 'alien' as an adjective here.) Conditions we can't replicate, colour fields we can't imitate, endless amounts of room we can't generate, and I'm rhyming already like I'm some sort of reprobate. I'm always on the hunt for pretty space pictures; I think I did a count recently and I have over 20 different space wallpapers saved - and if I see one I like then I just add it to my collection. I don't usually use them as desktop wallpapers - admittedly I use many of them as signature backgrounds, and there's a fair handful I've never used but hang on to just in case. Space isn't the only thing I find beautiful, of course - but it's one of the easier things to find beauty in. Also, there's no people up here, which I really like. I suppose that's part of the territory when breathing is a requirement.
It's often said people fear the unknown- which space largely is- and yet so many people admire and love it greatly. I wonder why that is? That aside, like everyone else here I'm very fascinated by outer space, what lies beyond. There's so many things that can be out there considering space is essentially infinite, and it both scares and interests me as to what the universe holds. I think my favorite part of space is how serene everything is, or at least appears to be. Floating endlessly in a never ending space, just sitting there, quiet. It all seems really peaceful.
... this video fascinates me so much. it's so interesting to me how a black hole that tiny could still cause destructive damage.
@Azalea Curse you for reminding me that Kurzgesagt exists; now I want to just pick a few more videos at random from its channel. "You will die. You will also lose the nickel." "No! My nickel!"
Saw this on Imgur. Supposed to be a picture of Pluto, the planet that is not considered a planet but really is a planet...
