God, it's so hard to find decent Visual Novels. I'm a newbie to the whole VN scene. I've only just started to read Danganronpa, and Kawata Shoujo, so I'm by no means experienced with this whole scene. But hey, why not promote some discussion? You guys can talk, discuss some VNs that you think are good, and I can learn and find some new ones.

Aw, hell. I might as well post my current reading list for yeas.

    • Kawata Shoujo, ~75% Complete
    • Danganronpa, End of Prologue
    • Sepia Tears, Will be receiving from friend soon
    • Grisaia no Kaijutsu, Same...
I swear, there had better be no... Funny business in these ones... I'm not sure why I still trust my friend...

I love most narrative games, so Visual Novels are included. So far, I've only been reading the free ones from Steam. Endless Summer is a waste of time. The writer was terrible, in my opinion, but the art was gorgeous. Then there was another one. CUPID. I loved that one. It certainly was graphic and 17+ but the story was amazing.

Sepia Tears is for free on Steam as well.

Yeah, from what I gather, most VNs are rather... Graphic... My god that was terrible...

CUPID, huh? I'll have to check that out. And I would download Sepia Tears from Steam but my sterile laptop doesn't have it installed... And I'm don't have time to wait almost 16 hours for my Steam Folder to copy...

The hardest part about VNs for me is finishing them... Particularly if it is a long story, I find myself forming a literaturial bond (I made that up, it's a connection with a fictional book character.). The hardest part, as it is in all similar things in life is letting go.

More than once I've been tempted to not finish a story, just to keep it alive... But that doesn't help me, which is why I began writing, I suppose. Someone else's story touched me and I started to write...

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go bawl my eyes out over the latest Katawa Shoujo Storyline... I was right, this was the saddest...

CUPID has sexual themes in it. Just be warned.

I actually love finishing novels, visual or not. I like concluding stories, not stuck in an endless loop of story.

No, in all seriousness, check out any Visual Novel by Key Studios (list of them being Angel Beats, CLANNAD, Little Busters, Air, Rewrite and likely a lot more that I can't remember off the top of my head). Most of them are eventually adapted into an anime, but source material is great. I haven't really had the chance to get any, but keep in mind that Key creates both a All Ages and an 18+ version of pretty much all their VNs sans Angel Beats I think.

The other two I'd recommend are Fate/Stay Night and from what I've heard Sound of Drop: Fall into Poison. The Fate franchise has a HUGE following for a reason, and that visual novel is pretty much the start of the entire universe from what I know of. Sound of Drop: Fall into Poison I'm not 100% sure about, but I'm assuming it's a decent horror VN if you're into that. Also, Steins;Gate because I love the anime and I'm sure the VN is just as good.

Keep in mind, I have not played any of these visual novels for I am broke af so I cant buy them. Just going off word of mouth.

I love Visual Novels though I haven't played nearly as many as I would like to. I have played a ton of Ace Attorney which many consider to be a Visual Novel due to how text focused it is. I also recently played the Zero Escape series which is a combination of a Visual Novel and a Puzzle game. Tons of fun and I highly recommend it.

Wow... There is an ANGEL BEATS VN?

    Omfg...

    *Walks away...*
    *Comes back*
Okay, you guys rock. I now have another, no doubt awesome VN to definitely read, and a lot more to check out.

I'm not too worried about the themes in the VN. It's just that I was reading this one that my friend gave me while I was at school...

EDIT: Oh... The Angel Beats one (1st Beat?) is Japan Region Locked and in Japanese... *sigh* The effort...

Okay time for me to throw this in here; OZMAFIA!! is one of my favourite VNs ever. It has a serious amount of endings, and while skipping through the beginning of the game can get a bit boring, the endings are so worth it. Now, it's pretty expensive, but... I might have pirated it? >coughs awkwardly< In any case, IGG has it completely working so if you want to give it a go, I completely recommend it! The art of the game is beautiful, and the story is pretty interesting as well ^^

I LOVE Visual Novels, especially Visual Novel games. I played the Ace Attorney games and the Zero Escape series and I'm currently watching Let's Play's of Dangan Ronpa and I love all of them. I love to read and I love casual games, and VNs feel like the perfect blend of those two to me.

Mega... DON'T WATCH IT PLAY IT!!!

I'm still mad that someone spoiled it for me... I was playing and came upon the first murder scene. The guy behind me pipes up and says "I know who killed <dead character>. It was <Murderer>."\
Needless to say, they now have a... Rather Large bruise...

OZMAFIA, huh? Sounds good. Wizard of Oz thingy?

The only VN I've finished is Danganronpa (BEST GAME) and I also own DR 2, The Fruit of Grisaia,Higurashi ch. 1 and few others, most of which I haven't tried out yet. The Zero Escape games seem super cool so I'll probably try out those sometime too >_>
    EDIT:
It's also impossible to be on the internet and not get spoiled for Danganronpa so be warned >_>

I trust you guys not to spoil. And I try not to go on sites where I can get spoils. :D

EDIT: So, after a tiny bit of research, I found this.

    http://woodmusicbox.tumblr.com/

This is the tumblr page of Wood Music Box Development Co. They are urrently working on a spiritual successor to Katawa Shoujo, under the title Full Hearts. Hope it turns out well. I might keep you guys posted.

Mostly, I am indifferent to visual novels. They're typically rather boring to me, like a sub-par and sometimes lewd TV show, only instead of watching it, I have to click a button to progess the story.

    Of course...there is...ONE exception....

    D-D-D-D-DANGAN RONPA!

I mean, it takes a typically rather tired japan-game cliché (kids are trapped in a horrible school) and makes it cool again! The truly interesting story, memorable characters, and genuine plots twists go a long way. The really neat mini-games don't hurt either.

Also, in this universe, all heroes are signified by a magic mark:

    THE AHOGE.
