One of the things that frustrates me most in video games in limited inventories. I guess I can forgive it in older games due to lack of space like Pokémon Gen 1, but I don't know why some modern games have limited inventories. Xenoblade, for example, has limited inventory space and with how many items and materials I am collecting I am forced to sell a lot of my stuff frequently. Luckily, the sequel made the inventory limitless. Do you guys ever get driven crazy by limited inventories? Do they bug you or not?

Limited inventory irritates me. Sometimes it happens that i want all items but i have to sell some to get new items. I was playing a game and i found something so i tried to pick it up but the inventory was full. In little irritation and anger i sold all my items and save the game. Afterwards i realized that i need them but they were gone. Limited inventory bugs me, we have sell some items for the new one.

Of the games I've played with limited inventory, it was a minor inconvenience - in that the inventory would virtually never run out, or it would only become an issue towards the very end of the game. With games that involve a lot of smaller items or objects - such as any game with some sort of crafting mechanism - this doesn't work nearly as well, not unless you have some sort of item storage and can craft using materials directly from said storage. For those that do have it, it's usually a countermeasure to prevent one character or party member from having literally everything at his/her disposal all at once.

Then you have games in which some inventories are limited and others not. Dragon Quest IX is my example for this, and I think it's a very good one. Each character has a personal inventory of 8 items, plus a bag with unlimited space. When drops happen they'll usually go to a party member's first available slot, pushing down until it would ultimately reach the bag, but some items - like, yes, crafting materials - are sent to the bag upon acquisition automatically. (Weapons and armour in Dragon Quest IX are also stored in a separate inventory altogether - which is also infinite.)

I believe it depends on the nature of the game itself, and how much inventory is actually used or needed. Is it vital? Is it often used or drawn from? Are most of your functions deriving from your inventory, or from other abilities of your character? These are a few questions to ask, to see if a limited (or even unlimited) inventory system is performed well - because unlimited inventories can be just as problematic as limited ones.

Limited inventories aggravate me a lot. I love hoarding stuff and never using them, so it bugs me when I can only hold so much stuff. After all, when if I get rid of something, what if I need it later? I live in constant fear of this happening.

Come to think about it, I don't remember being concerned at any time about limited inventories, because I haven't struggled with such as most games I play aren't heavily reliant on inventories for such. But if Pokémon Boxes in the PC count, then I wish you could be able to have more storage space, say to, 50 boxes? This sounds like much, but there could be an easier way to organise them. But this is just me, because I am using the Masuda Method to hatch a shiny Snivy, and I really don't want to put them in Pokémon Box. Me and my sentimentalness!

I really hate it when you have to buy extra space. It so cheap and stupid.
I can understand when realistic games have limited space, because you may be putting things in pockets, bags, etc., but when its in games like that aren't as realistic, I really care. Mainly because of how stupid it is.

This has always been a problem for me in Animal Crossing especially. The inventory in those games isn't so good. Such a shame.

Limited inventory space... ohh, that's so annoying. Lucky for me I don't own that many games that have such a small inventory that it's starting to bug me, but I've recently found out that my Pokémon Yellow has limited inventory space... I was so confused when the Pokemart lady told me "You have no more room for this item"... it took me ten minutes to figure out what she meant.
I also think inventories should be limitless, especially in games where you have to collect or carry around a lot of things. That would make everything much easier.

Yeah limited inventory space is annoying, but it's a necessary part of the game. Not just for realism (You mean I can have three miniguns on me at all times?!), but it's also a bit of balancing and requiring players to have some skill and careful thought. It makes them sit down and think "What do I need to have on me for this?" It requires players to have a strategy while going in

For me, it really depends on the type of game. In games like puzzle and strategy games, where you're supposed to think methodically, I don't mind limited inventory space as much. Or games with not a ton of collectible items and the like. If it's done in a way that supports the style of the game, then it's just good game design to me.

However, in games where collecting and exploring are huge parts of the game, then limited inventory space is less of a game mechanic and more of a hassle. Animal Crossing is a great example of this- in a game where collecting different kinds of furniture, clothing, fruit, bugs, fish, and other miscellaneous items are some of the core mechanics of the game, the inventory system is very poor. I can live with having a limited personal inventory, but having such limited storage space as well really doesn't work with a game like that. I fill up my inventory way too quickly.

At least with games like Xenoblade, there will be a marker next to important items you might need for later quests, but even then the limited inventory is a pain. I have sold rare, important items by accident just because I needed to empty my inventory and that feeling really sucks.

Hm, if it's a limit like "you may have up to 99 or 999 of each item" (like in the Mario & Luigi series or the newer Pokémon games), I'm fine with that.

What I'm NOT fine with are ones like Paper Mario's or Pokémon Mystery Dungeon's. I get SO irritated cause I run into many collectibles but don't have the space for them all. >__>
Or at the least, make it bigger... I was so disappointed with the max bag size in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon.
