Gameplay Journal Little White Lies (W2 NUZLOCKE)

Heya! So I've finished a HG Nuzlocke (not documented here) and am feeling pretty confident, so am tackling W2! The last time I played the unovan games, I lost all the data in the same accident that ended my diamond nuzlocke ;-; I wanted to randomize it but unfortunately I couldn't, so a normal run it is!

1. I can only catch the first Pokémon I encounter in each route/area. Shinies don't count!
2. If the first encounter is a Pokémon that I already caught, it doesn't count.
3. Also, the above rules only apply once I actually get Pokeballs.
4. I can't use Legendaries (Sorry Reshiram/White Kyuurem)
5. My starter Pokémon is decided by the first number of my trainer ID! 1-3 is Grass, 4-6 is Fire, 7-9 is Water and if it's 0, I get to choose.
6. I have to nickname all my Pokémon!
7. Because this came up last time, I cannot trade away any of my dead Pokémon.
8. And last but not least, faint equals to dead in this playthrough, and I have to release it or put it in the PC. If all the Pokémon in my party faints/dies I consider this Nuzlocke to be a failure.

A bright new winter day! I watch the intro and mash buttons through the beginning, before off me and my rival Hugh go to meet Bianca herself! God I've missed her, and she looks so adorable! Anyway, I say yes to everything she says before finally getting my starter, which is... a Snivy! My Trainer ID started with the number 2 after all. I'm very pleased about this, seeing as Snivy is my fave starter amongst the three, and the one I used in the last game. I was torn between Lucius and Salazar, but finally decided Salazar was more fitting, and shortened it to Sal. Behold my expert naming skills everyone!

After Hugh finished begging Bianca for his own Pokédex (I sense a tragic backstory here...) I challenged him to a battle. And it almost went HORRIBLY WRONG, because his tepig scored a critical hit and Sal only had one hp left. My nuzlocke run was almost over before it began! Luckily, Tepig kept on just using tail whip instead of finishing me off, and double lucky, there's a Pokémon centre in this city. Yes! Bianca oh so helpfully takes me there, even if I saw it on my way to the outlook. When we get out, we're greeted by our mom and Hugh's sis, who gives me helpful gifts before leaving having touched Bianca's heart. She then gives me the old "throw a Pokéball at it when it's weak" tutorial. I wish we had the option to skip it... Make it happen Gamefreak!

After Bianca leaves I wade through the tall grass, and my first encounter is... Purrloin! That's a decent Pokémon for now! Caught him easily and named him Raffles after searching up gentleman thieves on wikipedia. Am going to grind them both in the tall grass for a bit before progressing. There, Alder dramatically poses on this incredibly convenient ledge before somehow jumping down without breaking his bones and inspecting me and Raffles. To be honest if I was in that situation I might have slapped him, he was acting creepy.

So I backtracked and trained Sal and Raffles a bit more before going after Alder. He invites me to train at his house, which is still very creepy, but lets me go after Hugh first. Well, that's it for now! See you all next time!

So on Route 20 I caught a Sewaddle, which I named Tinker after Tinker Belle, especially since she's apparently a cunning little thing. I don't see myself using her anytime soon, so I box her. I have much better luck in the ranch, because I encounter an Azurill. Named her Mist after you @Pokémist ! Hope you don't mind! She's decently levelled and knows a water type move, so that's a good addition! Only problem is that she is weak offensively right now, but I'm hoping to get her to level 7 and fix that with Water Gun. She apparently likes scattering things.

Backtracked a bit to grind and heal, when Tragedy struck..! Raffles was MURDERED by a wild Lillipup's critical hit attack, despite being at full health and being two levels above it. Sent out Sal to avenge him, but the damage has been done. I knew he wouldn't be apart of the final lineup, but this still hurt... A loss so early in the game... Buried him in the PC and took out Tinker for the time being.

Well that's it for today. Next time I'll be off to grind again, so wish me luck! Hopefully no more lives will be lost...

So after some grinding and Mist learning water gun, it's time to battle Hugh. He sends out his only Pokémon... Tepig, which is just sad. I send out Mist, and so the battle begins! *Dramatic Music Plays*

The battle is pretty... straightforward, with me spamming water gun at dear old Tepig, who was insanely lucky and scored 2 CRITICAL HITS. Thankfully I used a potion after each one, so Mist didn't die. Still, I'm hoping this isn't going to become a trend... >:/ Anyway, Mist gets 135 exp points and immediately level up, nice! Even better, the owners of the ranch come over and give us potions! Double nice!

The couple lament about their lost Herdier, and like the nice guy I am, I agree to look for him. While Hugh stands around like an idiot, I take the time to abuse the couple's unlimited healing supplies to grind grind and grind some more. Once I'm finally done and returned the Herdier, I go back to Alder, where it turns out he just wanted me to help teach little kids. Oh. Now I feel bad for calling him creepy...

The little boy sends out Panpour, and unfortunately for him Sal was at the front of my party. I vinewhipped that water monkey to death quite easily. The next Pokémon Battle, with the little girl, starts out with... Pansear. Oh no. Switched to Mist and killed it with watergun, but the exp was split between her and Sal Hey, at least Sal levelled up again!

I leave the house, get accosted by yet another creepy old man who practically shoved a medal into my face (I know the player chara is pretty but geez people!) and head to the first gym... only to come across Alder in his dramatic pose YET AGAIN as he stops me. He gave me oran berries though, so there's that! He gave me a berry boring tutorial (geddit?) before sashaying away.

So.... the first gym. I'm confident enough in my ability, so I head in. And there he is... Cheren..! My fave character in these Pokémon games barring N! I kinda feel sorry for him, with how unfurnished and stuff his gym is, but a battle's a battle! The gym trainers were pretty easy to beat, even with their Leer spams. And then... it was time.

*Insert Ena screaming at blushing Cheren here*

Anyway! Cheren sends out Patrat as his first Pokémon. Sal would have easily taken care of it, if it hadn't landed a critical hit and brought Sal down to 1 health. I heal Sal but Patrat used that time to work up even more, so now Sal is in a very vulnerable position. I manage to edge in a victory by switching in Mist, who knocks Patrat out with Water Gun.

Next was the Lilipup. This one just leered at Tinker continuously and then spammed tackle. I had to switch in Mist again to use charm and lower its attack until it couldn't lower my defence no more, than I switched her out with Tinker again and she knocked it out with Bug Bite. With that, I won my first gym badge! With no casualties! Yay!
