Group RP Luminous (The Actual Campaign Featuring Convoluted Magic)

Robin sweatdropped. Was he really expected to work in this guild forever? He came here to find answers, not make a career here. He was reminded of a video game in his world called Evolution Quest where the protagonists went to guilds to take up jobs while also looking for answers. Perhaps the same could be said for here. How 'crazy' could it get?

He finished his taro puffs. "So what happens next, Jared-san?" Robin asked.

 

Robin's jaw dropped in surprise. He wasn't expecting Jared to be treating everyone for the meal. Now Robin kind of felt bad for eating at Jared's expense. "Th-thanks for the meal," he muttered. After finishing the remainder of his taro puffs, he was ready to go. Before he stood up, he jotted some more notes in his support log - first of all by writing down his companions' names.

He wondered if he could make any income here to buy supplies. Well, that would have to wait. For now, focusing on his spells was a start. What could he possibly cast at the moment? He would have to find out when he met these 'Masters'.

Kanaru smiled when she saw the gifts in her room. I think I may actually enjoy it here... she thought as she admired the robes and other items. But for the moment, she was most interested in a bed. It's not my bed in Tokyo, but it'll do.

 

When Ando returned to his room within the Guild, a wave of tiredness washed over him. Despite the nap he took before dinner, he felt exhausted. Perhaps this was his recent time on the road catching up to him. Regardless, he was thankful for the change of clothing he found at the foot of his bed - the clothes he wore under his armor, an earth-tone tunic and pair of trousers, were in desperate need of laundering.

The process of removing his armor was almost like a ritual to him. Ando carefully set each piece in the same corner he'd placed his spear. He took a long look at the sigil on the breastplate, barely recognizable after his attempts to scrub it off, before he bathed and settled in for sleep.

His leg muscles were on fire as he ran through the forest. He could hear things behind him, rushing through the underbrush, barking and howling. Were they gaining on him? He didn't know, but he dared not look back. Instead, he pushed forward, guided by some unseen thread weaving between the tangle of trees.

The forest abruptly ended, and in the distance stood a tall wall of red bricks. There was a gap in the wall that was closing. He forced himself to run faster, and with one final bound, he leaped through the gap. He wasn't sure if the sound he heard was the wall slamming together or the jaws of a beast snapping shut just shy of his feet.

The howling had ceased. Shaking with exhaustion, he picked himself up and climbed the wall to look over. There, he saw dozens of pairs of eyes burning like embers through the shadows of the forest. Predators eyeing the prey that had escaped. Then, something emerged from the tree line: a wolf twice as big as any he'd ever seen, its body covered in fur like iron. It spoke to him in a voice that sent chills down his spine:

"You cannot run from us forever, Tomonaga. We will find you, and when we do, you will not escape your punishment."

With impossible speed, the beast pounced, its fangs poised to--

Ando snapped awake with a gasp, his chest pounding and skin slick with sweat. His eyes darted around the dark room, his room. Just a nightmare, he told himself. His gaze drifted over to his armor, stacked up in a corner. The sooner he could get the set replaced, the better, but that was a problem for later. For now, he laid back down and tried to get a more restful sleep.

 

"Well, they have toothbrushes here at least," Wakeng remarked as he looked at all the different items he found in his room, which he had strewn over the bed. Including the meal coupons and money, the man surmised that rationing supplies would last him a week at most in reserve, which means he had to start doing jobs quite soon. Nodding to himself, Wakeng set all the items aside, stashing the money somewhere more secure, before going to sleep.

 

Once everyone was done with their food, Elio parted ways with his teammates for awhile. Not for that long actually. He just went to grab what little belongings left at his previous lodging (which were, honestly, just a set or two of spare clothes). He also thanked (and paid) the innkeeper for letting him stay there for the past week while he's at it.

Back at the group's current lodging house, Elio noticed a basket full of stuff in his room. A starter set for newbies, if you will. That, and the pouch previously given to Harvin earlier had been returned -- now with the Guild symbol sewn on it -- which could be found in Elio's starter set in particular. It was the sturdiest pouch the young whitehead currently had, so he wasn't surprised that it took a good while to actually sew the patch on it.

Elio then took a bath as soon as Ando was done (assuming the bathroom was a shared one, that is), then changed his clothes and called it a day.

 

On returning to the common room, Robin welcomed the sight of the stack of baskets. There wasn't a lot, but it would do for now. This guild had the decency to supply toiletries, so it also made Robin wonder what kind of era he had fallen into. There was even running water! He decided not to think about that for now and instead packed the pouch of qin into his bag. There were meal coupons too (Robin wondered if he could tell by the writing).

After Robin had taken what he needed, he went to change into the robes, which should be comfortable enough for the evening. Then he folded his school uniform away and neatly pulled the fabric to smooth out any wrinkles.

Before he went to bed, he took a moment to review his support log and also decided to document his interactions with his new companions. Then he read about his interactions with his friends. He already missed them. How was it that he retained the memories of his actual world? There were some things that Robin just did not understand.

Kanaru woke up at the noise of chatter outside. After quickly changing into a robe, she took a look outside. Is a play going on? she wondered at the stages outside...

 

Robin had dreamed of his home and his friends the past night and it was no surprise that he woke with slight tears in his eyes. He recalled Robyn sharing with him how she dreamt of reliving her world with her friends - and the pain that came with living with that.

Oddly, Robin dreamed of his friend Cherche and her pet whyvern crow Minerva too, in particular. He found that strange as he swapped from his robes to his school uniform. After he got dressed, he could hear a commotion outside. Seemed like a festival of some sort was happening at the moment. He took a look out the window and saw stages being set up. Wait, what?

Then he packed his bag and support log and then went out of his room to the common room.

By the time Kanaru and Robin woke up, Elio was already up and about. He did get his sleep, yes -- just being quite an early bird. That, and the hype was real out there, for it was the day all newest recruits received their Luminous. I mean, was the city always this festive whenever such a day occurred anyway?

For now, donning his blue tunic and trousers set, Elio would be at a nearby diner whose open hours started so early in the morning should anyone look for him.

 

Wakeng was already outside, having started a habit of walking around early in the morning to get used to the new city. His interest was piqued by the sudden increase in foot traffic along his usual path, which led him to discovering the huge construction effort in the city plaza.

"Hey auntie," Wakeng said, poking one of the shopkeepers he often passed by and talked to, currently setting up her stall like all the other vendors and merchants. "Do you know what's going on?"

 

In the few days that followed, Ando discovered the Guild had training rooms. He often found Guild members using them to practice their magic, but sometimes they would use them for more physical workouts. Ando began a habit of spending an hour or two each morning there, doing various stretches, exercises, and routines with is spear. It was a good way to keep his mind clear and his body in shape.

After one such morning, on his way back to his room, Ando noticed the streets were more bustling with activity than usual. Today must be the day, then, he thought to himself. He found Robin waiting in the common room. "Going to see what all the commotion is about?" he asked as he headed to his room to quickly change clothes.

 

On seeing Ando passing by, Robin realised that it was very quiet here. “Huh? Is everyone outside? I guess I could check it out,” he replied, not realizing that Kanaru was also still hanging around.

So Robin put his school blazer on and then made his way out to the streets. Something big was going on, that’s for sure. Maybe he might bump into a companion or two of his.

Judging from all the colorful floats and portable stages going by, Kanaru figured that a festival or a parade was going on. She wasn't sure what sorts of holidays were in this world, but it looked like something memorable for all present.

Kanaru was startled at the sign's appearance at first. Once she had her bearings again, she made a note of the time. I want to make a good first impression by being on time... she thought.
