Thankfully for Kanaru, the secretary at the front desk noticed the team not long after they arrived. She quickly made her way over to the far end, calling down some of the papers to her. Between something about finding a rare fruit found only on the high Meiyan Mountains and one requesting a team to defend a travelling merchant, there was the request they were looking for.

"Master Sairon told me about you. Just sign the paper, and we will handle the rest." the secretary - a badge read "Adrianne" - said, with little interest in her voice like she did this a hundred times a day. Which she likely did, given the sheer number of papers lining the wall.

On the paper, Cira had left some... minimal writing. Outside the line for signing, the message on it could hardly be called a formal request. "Help me cut down this iron tree in Lutze. Thanks bye :P"

Behind them, someone Robin had noticed before entered the room - that woman in purple robes he'd passed by while on the way to the armory a week ago. She seemed to be in a hurry, and headed right for them, although her unfocused gaze made it clear she wasn't there for them either.

"Thank you, Lady Adrianne." Kanaru replied. She read the notice very carefully--her father had always said to read anything important over before signing anything.

The next morning, Elio was not exactly feeling restful by the time he woke up. This one nagging feeling to go get that one commission didn't help either. Still feeling delirious from the nightmare he'd gotten last night, he followed Kanaru and the others to the main hall.

Thankfully for the group, the front desk secretary got the one commission they were looking for. She did say it was from Master Sairon, but what made Elio stifle his laugh was the way it was written: super short, way too casual for a formal request.
Still, considering the conversation from yesterday, this might as well be one way to keep the details secret. Iron tree, huh? Yeah, that's Master Cira for you, Elio mentally mused as he signed the paperwork.

By the time the sun rose, Robin woke up with a slight headache. He was still coming to terms that he really was not in a dream and that it looked like he would be here for a while. It led him to wonder how quickly time would pass by in his world. Was this one of those cases where in a dream, time would run more slowly? He recalled a sci-fi movie that was kind of like that which involved the main characters committing espionage in dreams, and that an hour in the 'real world' was about twelve hours in the dream. Was this the case, or something worse? He got up and changed into his school uniform. The guild armband was still pinned on the left sleeve of the blazer as he put the blazer on, then finished by tying on the neck ribbon as well as tying his shoes.

Soon enough, he had arrived at the main hall with his belongings to find his companions (although he personally felt alone, since he didn't know anyone here at all) at the front desk. There was a commotion occurring from what he could see, with people coming and going with copies of papers in their hands and others with even money. For Robin, it was like he was in a movie set or a video game, as this reminded him of the video game Evolution Quest where the Poketto players would be taking quests from guilds and getting paid for completing them. So this was what it felt like to immersed in the same setting! However, the reality hit him that only this guild was capable of doing it, and that everyone technically was not employed by the guild but contracted to it. In Robin's opinion, the guild may as well be the de facto government (since apparently it was responsible for local laws and defence!).
He also could see a hasty woman bolting towards the front desk. Was she not keeping her head up? At this rate, she might run into someone!

Robin took a few quick paces to catch up to the woman to see what she was up to.

The party signed the papers one by one, until the paper made its way back to Adrianne, who motioned for it to go flying away from the newcomer in purple - who yelled as it did. If Robin's eyes didn't deceive him, did that stranger lunge for that paper right in front of everyone?

It passed by easily, sliding right into the collected quest box. The stranger looked mad about it, too, the way she rounded away with a scowl, muttering something about "stealing destiny" and "in the way of her noble goal", loud enough for the whole party to hear. Before Robin could get over everything that had just happened, she was gone.

Strange. But they didn't have time to dwell. In fact, they would need all the work they could get simply to train, given they only had three days to learn how to wield their Luminous.

There were several approaches to learning Luminous magic, as they'd all learned in the past week. The studious would go to the library, the practical to the training rooms... and the ambitious to the dueling grounds. It was also best to know what spells they would have, given the difficult quest before them, so perhaps sticking together was wise.

    @WavePearl @ID Zeta @Jupjami @SAF
(If you guys are going to vote, I suggest that goes down OOC, unless you have in-character arguments or discussion you want to do before training. It will change nothing except the setting for this next point.)

Sleep evaded Ando for a good while that night; he couldn't push the thoughts of Lord Shinobu from his mind. When morning inevitably came, he'd gotten too few hours of sleep for his liking. Unfortunately, if the next few days were going to be as busy as he thought, he wouldn't have much time to catch up on missed sleep.

He joined the rest of his companions at the commission board's front desk. He raised an eyebrow at the... causal wording of Cira's request when it was his turn to sign it, but given the unusual nature of this whole situation, he didn't think too much of it. He repeated the expression when he heard the frustrated grumbling of a nearby purple-clad stranger, who vanished before he could try to identify her (not that he would be able to in the first place).

"So, weird chuunibyou women clad in purple aside," Wakeng said, catching the attention of the group, "I suggest we check out the library for today to study our magic. Then tomorrow we go to the training rooms to practice spells, then do duels on the last." It was the ideal set-up to keep everyone all-rounded, but it also carried the risk of only learning a little of each; like reviewing for three different exams in one session. Jack of all trades and all that. Still was the best option he could think of, though. "Or we could focus all three days on one or two places. It's a reconnaissance mission; we might not need to fight. What do you think?" he asked, looking at the others.

"My only concern is that would wear us out..." Kanaru interjected. "That, and there is the risk we could still need to fight. So if we had to choose one of those, I would pick the training room."

Robin was left in a state of confusion as the woman in purple made a dramatic lunge for a certain request right in front of him. In Robin's opinion, the woman was displaying possibly suspicious behaviour. Like, why would she single out that particular request before anyone else? There were a few possible explanations. The request could have had sentimental value to the woman, or that there was a heavy incentive or particular reward to gain from it, or that the request might contain a secret message (like those he had seen in spy movies). Oh, did she mention something about 'noble destiny'? It sounded personal.

His thoughts snapped back to the discussion before him. "I wouldn't mind spending time at the library," he agreed with Wakeng. "And that sort of pattern seems sensible. Training and duels can follow after. Like, few of us have any idea how this power works, so this would be a good start."

After brief discussion among the group, the decision eventually settled on the library as a starting point.

The Jinguang Archives seemed nigh endless - books sorted on a topic-to-topic basis, arranged in shelves upon shelves that towered all the way to the ceiling. To one side was a "beginners' reading list", put together by a previous Duelist Master by the looks on the introductory sign.

On the list, a few simpler introductory books stood at the top, before becoming progressively more difficult and specific based on a flowchart of the reader's interests. "Luminous and You: Basic Do's and Don'ts", "Jinguang Guild Official Combat Guide", "To Hold The Sun - Mythos and Origins of the Luminous", "Law Is Magic: The Legality of Spellcasting", "Materials and Magic - 3rd Edition", and other titles could be found in the surrounding shelves.

In a corner, a few desks and benches made a simple, walled-off study section. Given the early hour, the area was thankfully open and empty - far more than enough for five people to get a head start on learning.

For Robin, he was more intrigued by the fact that he was able to understand or recognise the writing. Did this world use the same characters as his own? If so, where did the origin come from?

But he shelved those thoughts for now and picked up a stack of beginners books. There was so much to read, but he was a bookworm to begin with. Then he brought them to the study section and to save a table for his companions.

This... was Elio's first time entering the Jinguang Archives. The sheer amount of available books made his head spin because like Kanaru, he was not entirely sure where to start. Fortunately for everyone though, Robin had already picked up some books and saved a table beforehand, so all Elio needed to do was to pick up a book from the stack and start reading. And which one did he pick? "Luminous and You: Basic Do's and Don'ts".

List of books (Assuming these are the same books Robin just picked up...)
    • Luminous and You: Basic Do's and Don'ts (taken by Elio)
    • Jinguang Guild Official Combat Guide
    • To Hold The Sun - Mythos and Origins of the Luminous
    • Law Is Magic: The Legality of Spellcasting
    • Materials and Magic - 3rd Edition

"To Hold The Sun - Mythos and Origins of the Luminous"

That title sounded promising enough, so Kanaru carefully eased it out from the stack. If anything, it could give her some clues about why the group had come to this world.

Written as a first introduction to all newbies, the book was quite well-taken care of, and suited to his needs. Of course, there were the basic legalities and rules for how to treat a Luminous and their caster - these Elio had already heard of. But it also had an actual section specific for casters, describing how to summon and unsummon their focus, helpful tips for casting and combat, and the like. Now that he was a recruit, he could probably make better use of all these.

Concentration, focusing on your thoughts, a large moment - these were all techniques the book provided for casters to get used to the "motion" of summoning their Luminous. And a Luminous was allowed in the library for simple spells, so long as it didn't cause anything. Perhaps he could try a few of those tips?

    @WavePearl
The book seemed to be recently written - perhaps within the last four years? It seemed to be a history book first and foremost, with its credibility lending it to the newbies' section.

The formation of Juayang as a nation is an event that closely follows the discovery of the Luminous, marking the end of the Predawn Era...

The most specific record pertaining to the discovery is that of Huang Zhiyuan, advisor to the first Master of the Jinguang Guild and ruler of Juayang. Even after translation, it gives a very vague description.
"She looked up towards the [sky]. There was a bright light, followed by her disappearance. It was like she had left the world for a few moments. She returned seconds later, holding the sun in her hands, as if she had plucked it from the sky."
(Note: The first usage of "sky" is a different character from the latter, as a specific term used to describe darkness. This leaves a distinct possibility that she was not looking towards the sky, but towards any dark area.)

Multiple theories have spawned from this one description. Some believe the Luminous comes from another realm entirely, one dubbed the "abyss beyond" due to its only description being dark. A growing new theory, spawning from descriptions of casters' Luminous Awakening, is that the Luminous is directly tied to a third, distinct being...

However, due to the lack of proper records available, there is little solid evidence to back any theory. It is said that only the Masters of the Jinguang Guild know the truth, of which they are sworn to secrecy.

"Is that 'To Hold The Sun'?" came a soft yet sudden voice from behind Kanaru.

A young woman in a long, sleek dress stood to the side of the party, her dark-skinned face just about visible behind a translucent veil. "My apologies if I startled you. You're all new... Gilded, aren't you?"

Robin had seated comfortably with "Materials and Magic - 3rd Edition" as he took time to process the amount of information before him. On one hand, he wondered how he was able to understand the writing when he was technically in another world. Maybe it was because this world used the same writing as his world? If that was true, then it was possible that this world was connected well to his own. Or maybe it was a power that Naga granted that enabled him to communicate effectively here.

He was still able to read the writing and he scanned the contents. Just as he was about to read more of it, his thoughts were interrupted by a young woman's voice to his side. "Hmm? 'Gilded'?" he replied. "Suppose we are all new. Can we help you?"

Taking "Law Is Magic: The Legality of Spellcasting" from the table, Wakeng looked at the strange lady in a veil talking to some of his dorm mates. Internally deliberating his next course of action, he eventually shrugged and walked off to a quieter part of the library to read. Hopefully this country doesn't any weird obscure laws that are very easy to accidentally break and get jailed for.

"What can you- oh!" The woman tensed up, especially upon seeing Wakeng leave. "No, no- I just... I should be asking that question."

She took a moment to smooth herself out. "My apologies. I'm a senior Luminous researcher, and I saw you're all new. Not to make any assumptions, but Luminous casting is difficult for new... 'Gilded', isn't it. As part of a... new program, I'm can help train you all, a little."

"Besides," she continued, a frown flickering across her face for a moment, "you can never be too careful with anything Luminous related these days."

"Luminous and You: Basic Do's and Don'ts". Essentially one of the Luminous 101 books. While there were parts that Elio was already aware of, a lot of things in the book were new to him. One of the things that fell into the latter category was the caster-specific section (he'd skimmed the book's table of contents and skipped to that particular section) and one of its contents was how to summon and unsummon the caster's focus. So now Elio tried to do exactly that only for a woman claiming to be a researcher to distract him. Big time. "Huh? I- uh- yeah, we're new," the boy stammered. He then looked to the others for opinions as he was not entirely sure himself...

This made Kanaru freeze in nervousness. "Why do you say that, miss?" she asked the woman.
