Group RP Luminous (The Actual Campaign Featuring Convoluted Magic)

"The Xou?" Kanaru asked, confused. What are those? And what have I gotten myself into?

She did her best to shove the worries out of her mind as she followed the others up.

Well, this is it, Elio gulped now that everyone involved in the mission was underground. "Be careful, Master," he mumbled as Cira walked off the other way after the rock-paper-scissors game she had with Wakeng.

As the group walked, Elio could hear Kanaru's confused question. "Uh... remember the bandits from before? Back when we first met?" he tried to jog her memory about that particularly fateful day. "That was the Xou and this must be their base. They normally don't attack villages yet they did wreck mine," the boy tried oh-so-hard to not look shaken despite his voice. "Why...?"

 

Robin merely glanced at the crates as he walked by them. Sure, the colourful lights made him curious but he wondered if they could be equated to the same radiation found in nuclear weapons. Wait, did nuclear weapons even exist in this world? Judging by how they were tightly locked up and guarded, it was possible. And it was also possible that the bandits intended to fetch a hefty price on these in the black market.

He continued to advance forward and past the first room. Right now, they probably should make way to the heart of the base and rendezvous with Cira-san. It may be better to meet up with her first, in case if she got attacked. Even Elio appeared to be worried, given the mention that his village was razed. Was the village even there anymore? Did he lose much? For a moment, Elio's shaken appearance reminded Robin of Robyn back in his home, when she appeared out of nowhere and carried frightening memories of her former world. Robin could understand how the feeling.

He went ahead to the next corridor.

 

Was that the sound of an informant of sorts? From the sound of it, the guild which Robin was employed with had been infiltrated. That voice... Was it familiar to him? Not wanting to give away his position, he crouched down in the corridor to try and summon his Luminous. That crow which he had been training hard to summon for the past while was now forming before his eyes. Maybe he could put it (or rather 'her') to good use.

 

Kanaru froze at the sounds of the conversation. Had they been betrayed? Were they about to walk into a trap?

Calm down... she reminded herself as she watched one of her companions summon a crow.

 

With the images from the crow's eye showing in his mind, Robin recalled the crow back to him. "Thanks, Minerva," he said, without realising that had added the name on instinct. He shook his head. How could a construct have a name? But from the looks of it, the appearance of the was strikingly similar to the wyvern he knew - or rather his friend befriended. Perhaps the crow's appearance was formed from his memories.

Robin then turned to his companions. Elio, Kanaru, Wakeng, and Ando. "There are two bandits ahead of his," he said in a low voice (but not quiet enough to be a whisper). "From a tactical view, we have an advantage in numbers and weapons. There are no weapons they have nearby that would pose significant danger to us. Now from a strategic view, we could find an alternative to fighting if we have anything that could incapacitate them without causing any commotion. So we have a tactical option for sure, and if anyone has any suggestions for a strategic option, I'm open to that."

Then Robin felt a throbbing pulse in his head like a headache. It had been a while since he had talked like this, not since he was planning strategies in his previous mission to save the world with Robyn. Is this what it meant to be experienced?

 

Wakeng pondered the crow guy's analysis. Was he a tactitian or something before this? That was some pretty solid analysis right there.
Putting away that thought for later, Wakeng remembered something he watched on television (because TV was totally a good thing to base real life strategies on, but hey, they were desperate). "By any chance, did your scout notice anything that can make a loud noise? ...we could set up a distraction and ambush them while they're preoccupied."

"Wha--" Elio's eyes went as wide as dinner plates upon hearing Wakeng's proposition. I mean, an ambush? Really? What was the man thinking???

"Pleasenopleasenopleasenoplease, I don't wanna pick a fight," the Moguri boy pleaded quietly -- he might as well factored in Master Cira's warning earlier. "Maybe we should wait for them people to leave before we go?"

Kanaru was nervous at the idea of a fight. "I don't think it would be wise to fight those guys...they could be stronger than they appear to be!"

 

Wakeng tilted his head. "Oh, yeah no I meant we quickly knock them out while they're not looking," he explained. The bow girl did make a point though, who knows what kind of physical enchantments their enemies could have. "Or we could just sneak around them, I guess."

 

"As I said, there are alternatives to fighting," Robin assured Elio. Turning to Wakeng, he said, "The only things I saw that could make a loud noise would be the weapons. We could try rushing them and knock them out - that's the tactical way since we have weapons advantage. If there's a way to knock them out without engaging them, I'm open to that."

He noticed Wakeng also giving him a look, which Robin couldn't blame him because Robin was younger than Wakeng. Yet how was it that Robin was giving military-style tactician advice? It was like Robin had been through battles like these before. In a way, he had actually gone through scenarios like this in the past. So it would appear strange that a high school student like himself was bringing combat and tactician experience.

"Unfortunately, there is no way to sneak around them. If anything, we could try using weapons in the room as a diversion before we incapacitate them entirely. There's only two of them, after all," Robin concluded.

 

Only 2 unarmed bandits up ahead? Ando's team had both the number and weapon advantage. "If we don't deal with them now," he mentioned, "they could become a problem later on. Incapacitating them and hiding their bodies is the smartest move."

He rolled his shoulders, considering plans of attack. "I can probably take one of them by myself, and I may have a way* to obscure any sound they make. If the other tries to run, I'm sure one of you can use your Luminous to stop them."

Wakeng gave the knight a curt nod. "Right then, I'll dash to one side of the room and make a shelf fall or something, then you take 'em on while distracted?" he proposed, looking to the rest of the group for confirmation.

"But what happens if they notice us instead?" Kanaru asked. "Then what would we do?" She wasn't so sure about fighting, even now.

 

"If they notice us, then our only choice is to attack. No questions asked," Robin said. He tried to think back to what he saw through his construct (that is, Minerva).

He turned to Wakeng. "There are a couple of weapons racks in there that you can topple. We rush in afterward and take them out. Sound good?" he said. Robin tried to consider Elio's and Kanaru's wishes to avoid combat, yet make use of the situation. "I think we have enough manpower to get through this quickly. If there are no objections, we can proceed."

So that's how it came to be. The team decided to attack anyway despite Elio's and Kanaru's objections ("Okay..."). Since Wakeng would be the first to act, Elio focused his Luminous to give the man a little dexterity boost to help with his movements.

 

Wakeng tilted his head in recognition. "Sure; and don't worry, if they look your way I'll be louder" he said as he inched closer to the entrandce and readied himself for a silent Dash towards the far side of the enemy-filled room.
